Saturday, June 20, 1931

Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s again today.  She has to do the work & watch the kids, Leona has to drive the tractor again.  They was there for lunch, dinner, lunch.  I seen in the paper that Miss Ursula Havey is going to school at Carbondale.  That Judge Scheinder got married to Mrs. Bacblecher, they went for a honey moon trip to Calif. Colrado [sic], & a few other places.  Mr. Neheaus the conctrator [sic] from Red Bud & also the Millner’s Husband died & was buried last Sun. at Steelville Ill.  Tonight Harry Kammler is giving a dance again.  Werner is on the sick list now.  This morning I baked 4 pies, 2 cherries & 2 dewberries.  There where a good many cars in town tonight & also driving through.

Friday, June 19, 1931

Today is baking day.  Papa, Rosalia went dewberrying this morn, they got 3 gals.  We got 4 qts from them & rest in jelly.  Papa is helping shock wheat again, Emil is also helping today.  Papa was there for lunch dinner & lunch.  Rosalia came home to put the Berry’s away.  This evening she has to drive out & get him again.  We all went out to Uncle Fred’s this evening to pick berries, we got 1/2 gal, Lonia was picking this afternoon & she got 1 gal, Aunt Mary gave us a 1/2 gal of cherries.  We all & Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary drove down to Oscars Birkner’s to pay him for the cow, but we didn’t get [out] of the car.

Thursday, June 18, 1931

Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s again today.  She has to take care of the kids because today Emil can’t help, so Leona has to drive the tractor.  They had lunch dinner & lunch there.  This evening they brought the kids along up again for supper, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, where also here for supper.  We sold 5 lbs. H. Hus got 15¢ a lb. & 97 # Med. for 14¢, eggs are down to 11¢ now.

Wednesday, June 17, 1931

We where all at Henry’s today for lunch dinner & lunch.  Emil was helping too.  But they broke a piece on the binder, so they had to stopped at 3:30.  We helped to clean the summer kitchen.  This evening Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped here on there way to Ike Napier’s to a party, we where invited but didn’t go.  It is Ike’s birthday.

Tuesday, June 16, 1931

We all went down to the truck patch this morning & cleaned the weeds all out of there again.  We dug some potatoes this morning for dinner, they are pretty big.  Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s this afternoon, he was cutting wheat, she drove the tractor, Rosalia took care of the kids, they brought them along up here to night, they had supper & breakfast here, they where good boys.

Monday, June 15, 1931

Papa went out to Henry’s this morning.  He had intended to start cutting wheat today, this afternoon.  Papa is on the sick list he has a stiff neck.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this evening.  Henry & family where here Sun. night but we weren’t at home.  Eggs are still 12¢.  We washed, ironed, patched today.

Sunday, June 14, 1931

Today is Pinic [sic] in Floraville & one at the Round Prarie [sic] Church, on the hill.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed at Hecker all night, ready for church this morning.  We where at there place for dinner & lunch.  Hy. Armstutz stopped when he came home from the ball game.  Ben Rausch stopped & invited us all to come to the barn dance tonight at Webers, to surprize [sic] him on his birthday.  So we all went, it was mostly all old people there.  Sthiel & Herzog furnished musci [sic].  Papa & Rosalia went to Waterloo Church this morning, we went to Hecker, it was out in a hurry, no sermon & low mass, because he tought [sic – thought] the people where tired from the pinic [sic].

Saturday, June 13, 1931

Today is Catholic Church Picnic, nice day.  Rosalia & Bertille went up a little while in the evening.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here.  Henry & family came – they left the kids with Papa & they went to the pinic [sic] too.  It turned out to be a big crowd, someone said they sold 300 supper thickets [sic].  He had the victrola & radio agoing that’s all the musci [sic] they had.  There where mostly all strange people there, from St. Louis, Belleville, & all over.  The auction the pies & cakes out, some brought 10-15-20-55¢ & Aunt Mary bought one before that & paid 30 for Whiter & a piece or two Sunshine.  Papa went along out to Schulz’s with Eichenseer’s to help set up a binder.  Odillo said he was going to St. Louis tonight, to a party.

It is raining this morning a little.  Bertille went to church.  This afternoon we all went out to Henry’s & helped him hoe weeds out of the corn patch, we had lunch there.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here this evening.  Rosalia & Bertille went to church.

Thursday, June 11, 1931

Ed Parker has poster’s, up for his big new barn dance tonight.  We went out & the crowd that was there, some said 300, & others said 500 people upstairs, it sure was crowded.  People from all over, Evansville, Smithton, Waterloo, St. Louis, from everywhere.  There was a man here today selling fruit again, we send him off.  Papa went out to Henry’s to get a load of posts.  Eggs are still 12¢ yet.
