Saturday, Dec. 12, 1931

Papa got crushing done. He went out to Henry’s & to Uncle Adam’s took his scraper back; then he was by Ettling showed him his road, because he plowed a furrow over in the alfafa patch. This evening we all & Henry’s family went over to Uncle Fred’s listen to there radio. We played 5 handed pinochle, Bertille won 1 & Leona & Henry lost, we just played 2 games.

Friday, Dec. 11, 1931

Henry brought a load of corn this afternoon, lb. butter for us 35¢. The egg man paid 26¢ for 12 doz. today.

Thursday, Dec. 10, 1931

We went to Belleville sold 12 doz. eggs @ 30¢ then brought there radio along out, we where there for dinner. Jim Beese & wife, John Breugtiam & wife, Fritz Armstutz where also there, fixed the radio up, they played cards in the afternoon.

Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1931

We washed, hung it in the basement. We went to Red Bud & to Waterloo this afternoon. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went to Belleville to get there radio, but couldn’t haul it. So we will have to get it tomorrow. They where up this eve.

Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1931

Went to 6 mass at Red Bud, then went to Belleville. Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary had dinner here. They bought a radio victrola at Belleville at Lurtz’s for $15 complete set. Hecker was represented at Belleville too & also Paderborn, Evansville.

Monday, Dec. 7, 1931

Today is Grandpa’s birthday. Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s butchering today, they had lunch & dinner. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up here for Chicken supper. Then we played pinochle Bertille had 1500 trump hearts. Our daily paped [sic – paper] got charged now, again, get it the same day at 4:30 at the post office, they delivered them out now.

Sunday, Dec. 6, 1931

We went to Red Bud church. Went out to Uncle Fred’s had dinner & supper there came home did the feeding & went back again in the eve. Henry Birkner’s family, Jim Beese & wife & Groom & wife where there in the eve, Jos. Gregson’s where also there in the afternoon & also Groom & Beese.

Saturday, Dec. 5, 1931

We went to Red Bud to church this afternoon. Henry & family where up this eve, played some hot pinochle games. He went up to see Jac. Neff.

Friday, Dec. 4, 1931

Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s this afternoon. George Frisch from Lords Corner have a little baby boy 2 weeks old, they now have 2 children. Mamie & Clarence where here this eve.

Thursday, Dec. 3, 1931

Rosalia & Bertille went to Parkinson’s funeral. Odillo Eichenseer drove Jatho’s machine with the mourners. There where just the two daughters. It wasn’t a very large funeral. The priest went along out to the cemetery & buried him. The egg man paid 30¢ & took some saussage [sic] along with him. Joe Mueth of Belleville his home was raided, found, whiskey, beer, & wine. He is a cripple so they didn’t do much with him.
