Saturday, Sept. 10, 1932

Papa walked down to the molasses factory this afternoon, but there was no one there, they weren’t working. We where invited for a dance at Chris Neff’s, but didn’t go. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went, Ignt Mosbacher gave it & charged 25¢ from the men, & also had a lunch counter.

Friday, Sept. 9, 1932

We all went out to Henrys corn patch took dinner & lunch along, us 3 cut 18 shock. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this evening. Bertille went up & got the mail. It was pretty warm this afternoon & cool in morn. & nite. Aunt Mary made some butter for us, here this eve.

Thursday, Sept. 8, 1932

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary are up today again. They where here for dinner & lunch. He helped make hay alfalfa. Papa took the mules & mower out to Henry’s & Rosalia went with the truck. They started in cooking molasses today.

Wednesday, Sept. 7, 1932

Miss Bell is 63 yrs. old today. Jung the egg man was here & got 39 doz. eggs at 15¢. Papa cut corn on Uncle Fred’s place, & then he got some whey, 2 barrels for Henry. We are cooking catsup, canning some 4 qts, & 7 qts & 4 pints saurkraut [sic]. We have the cans all filled now. Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s to cut corn there. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up again this afternoon. Shcinder is plowing here. Jung was here & cashed his check.

Tuesday, Sept. 6, 1932

We washed, ironed. Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s to meet that fellow there with the cow & calf, mule. Today school begins. Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s & got the 2 mules, then he cut hay here. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this morning. We cup up tomatoes for catsup a big pit full. Henry & family came up this evening & got a basket of yellow tomatoes for canning. Calf was born last Wed. Aug. 31.

Monday, Sept. 5, 1932

Today is Labor Day. Firemen Pinic [sic] at Red Bud & pinic [sic] at Tiptown. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up then we went to Red Bud, seen the parade, it was nice, then we went out to St. Joe to see Mr. Michael to make a trade with him our 2 horses & his mule, cow & calf, so tomorrow I guess he brings it as far as Henry’s. From there we went to Tiptown pinic [sic], met a few people there, had sandwich there. They [caught] Peter Carr & arrested him took him to Waterloo for selling booze on the grounds, he isn’t right, is out of his mind; he claimed the Reed’s where selling it, not him, Cody & May gave him a hit on the nose, his ears where bleeding nose & mouth, he looked a sight. Then we came back & spent the rest of the time in Red Bud pinic [sic], then came home & ate watermellons. Henry was up at noon & got whey for himself & a can for us, couldn’t get none all long.

Sunday, Sept. 4, 1932

We all went out to Uncle Fred’s had chicken dinner, then got ready & went to Waterloo to see the parade & pinic [sic], it was good, & this evening we went out to Geo. Fruend’s, they had a little boy, celebrating Creses birthday, had supper there. It was a nice day.

Saturday, Sept. 3, 1932

Papa got crushing done. Mrs. Osie Neff is pretty bad sick the way they say. We had spring chicken dinner. This evening the Waterloo & Millstadt Homecoming, begin; with a dance, & band concert, & carnivals. It is cloudy & gloomy this morn. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Henry & family where all up this evening, eating cake, watermellons [sic] & beer, celebrating Rosalia’s birthday. 21 yrs. old.

Friday, Sept. 2, 1932

Papa got corn farthen from Uncle Freds this morn. we are baking bread, cooking catsup, & baking cakes, coffee cakes. It is raining, this evening. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up for Phil Braun’s dance, open air floor dance, they put a tarpolian [sic – tarpaulin] over it & fixed it so no one could go in without paying 25¢, & couldn’t see from the outside because he had it between buildings. Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s. got oats. Henry Jackson was there & said that he had bought a horse. Ed Schinder is plowing.

Thursday, September 1, 1932

Today School starts all over. The Catholic & Public, Hilda Wihelms teacher, & Blackburn School, Virginia Miles, Hirst School, Ethel Dueker. Chas Jung was here & cashed his check for $3.10. Papa took the Chev. out to Barthel’s & got battery recharged. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up all afternoon. It is somewhat cooler today. Bertille went over to Rennecker’s to get the papers. Papa went out trading. Bobby likes school so well.
