Fried in meat; washed curtains, cleaned front rooms. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, dug sweet potatoes, had supper here. Papa went to Wagner’s telephone meeting. It rained. We had backbone soup today.

We washed, ironed; quilts, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, we butchered 40 lb. pig; made 2 liver saussages [sic], & fried the meat, ribs all in; they where her for supper. It is warm today.
Monday, Oct. 9, 1933
It is raining; cleaned hen houses put in straw. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up this afternoon. We cooked catsup. eggs 20¢.
Sunday, Oct. 8, 1933
Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed awhile this morning. We went down to Ruma to the 18th Wedding Anniversary of Mr. & Mrs. J. A. Myerscough, in the hall, big crowd, some from here, Gregson’s, Krehers, Parker, Papenberg, neighbors string band played. Oct. 5 was the day.
Saturday, Oct. 7, 1933
Papa sowed wheat, Rosalia got crushing done. Hy. Meng got our mule, & worked him. We went to Red Bud to Waterloo, got glass put in chev; seen where 2 cars, that smashed this morn, by Donahue’s on R. 3, one came from St. Louis, that was Connor’s from Prairie Du Rocher, he was out on an all nite party, & was sleeping they say went the accident happened, at 6 o clock this morn, the other car was going to E. St. Louis. 7 persons where injured, 6 broken legs & in Red Bud Hospital, the cars look asight, all smashaed, total wreck, Nobbe has the cars. There is an all nite dance at Oak Groves & 20 Wedding Anniversary dance at Brezzy Hill, Mr. & Mrs. Wm. Crook; musci [sic] by Moonlighters.

Papa is discing corn ground, with Roy’s horse & kids brought it here. Liesce Lumber Co. stopped, inquired the way to Bill Heyl’s. Bertille got the mail, received an invitation card to come to Ruma to J. Merycouth [sic- Myerscough] dance at the hall, wedding anniversary dance. Mrs. Dalkert passed away Oct. 3. buried this afternoon. Harold Hellmer & Bertram were published 1st time.
Thursday, Oct. 5, 1933
We picked 1 ½ bu. tomatoes, Henry & Albert Cleveland, came up got them this evening, he got his molasses, we took a sample of it. They finished slabbing this morn in town, there out at Geodell’s now. We dug all of our sweet potatoes out. Papa went out to see Roy Stauenfbiel.
Wednesday, Oct. 4, 1933
Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up, they watched road gang, & got 1 gal. foam from factory, gave us glass full. We went to Donahue’s Inn, free grand opening dance, & Boy was it grand; & crowded ; 7 piece orch. Red Bud. Schmidt, Cowell, Miss Parkinson; all kinds instruments. Eggs 17¢ today.

It is pretty cool. They finished laying slab now by Waterloo. Papa & Rosalia got a load of wheat at Henry’s. They moved in with the slab outfit; started working this afternoon in town, we watched, they worked with lights, till nearly 7 oclock, because the trucks had all loaded; they are past Eichenseers store, with the middle path, the sides isn’t made there yet, but north & south is finished. Henry & family up this eve.

We washed quilts etc. ironed; took flowers up. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up, had lunch here, she took the tomatoes all along 1 bu. ½, we went out this evening helped cut them for catsup. Ed Pabst was here brought 6 bus. potatoes. Henry & Floyd brought sugar cane, he butchered a pig yesterday evening, weighed the meat 20 lbs; fryed [sic] some down. Clara Wagner got flowers; here. Form [?- unclear] are being laid now in town.
