Papa & Rose hauled load wheat to Waterloo from out at Henry’s, got 77¢ 17 bus.; that is 3rd load from out there; papa took the Whippet to Probst’s & got oil changed; 16603 miles. Berti cooked plum jelley [sic]. Cloudy & rainy this afternoon; & night stops threshing again.

Went to Red Bud mass, & Boy! was Fr. sored [sic – soured], caused of the pinic [sic], only cleared $100.00 our quilt brought $20.00, but he had to take 48. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped & went to the pinic [sic] for supper, at Manier Park, we went to in the evening; large crowd; music in the afternoon by Floraville brass band & Pals of Harmony for the dance. Adm. 25¢, we didn’t win a thing; the quilts were won by Adele Bocker, & Mrs. Ad. Spalt & one raffled with playing bluey, by Adolph Rittmeyer. The chickens were all [gone] before supper, Adm. 40¢. Ray Herzog & Dorothy Napier were married yesterday. Rickert of Freeburg & Lillian Armbruster were married about 2 weeks ago at Belleville Court House, they say.
Saturday, Aug. 10, 1935
Henry came & got his team & a wagon; had lunch here & engine moved out about 6 o’clock this morning. Katie Keorber youngest daughter of Louis Keorber & Wm. Weber’s boy were married last Sat. at 3:30 Smithon [sic] church; going to start in farming. Pap & Rose hauling wheat from Henry’s to Waterloo. Al Gauen came & got a 13½ lb. ham, 35¢. The price of hogs now is $12 – 100, market. Richard Crowe was out helping with threshing yesterday. Rained this morn. Wheat 77¢ had 17 bus. hauled to Waterloo. We went to a free dance at Pautlers tonite, nice crowd, Carle Schumacher Orchestra.
Friday, Aug. 9, 1935
Mr. Jim Parker is being buried this morning but none of us can go, we have to go to Henry’s threshing, oats; the grandsons were pallbearers; 3 of Geo Parker’s, & Paul & Clyde Pautler & Hy. Birkner; the daughter, Sister Amada was also home; came Thurs.; it was an awful large funeral. Henry had threshers for dinner & lunch, & supper; moved here about 4 o’clock. Klotz & Watchel machine threshed this & Geo. Schilling moved onto Blackburn’s. Henry threshed altogether 1108 bus; 394 bus. here & 714 out there, highest oats threshed so far; we got for our share 369 bus. Pabsts bought oats 47 bus.
Thursday, Aug. 8, 1935
Cut lawn, made plum preserve, jam & jelly. Papa took load wheat, 15 bus. to Red Bud, got docked 5¢, 84¢ best price; first hauled from 1935 crop here in Hecker; he hauled 2 more loads this afternoon, both times 18 bus.; got 79¢; him & Rose went out to Henry’s, took 17 bus. from there to Waterloo & got 77¢. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up, had supper here. Henry came this evening.
Wednesday, Aug. 7, 1935
Baked bread, had chicken dressing. Papa took lawn mower to Fritsche to get it repaired. Evansville church, & Tipton church have pinics [sic] today; & chicken suppers. Loyd Pabst came got sacks, threshing oats today. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went to Belleville came back here for dinner had chicken. Sure is hot this afternoon & day. Mrs. Emma Altis of St. Louis Mo. died, be buried tomorrow afternoon, she was a Freese, Uncle Fred niece; & Mr. Jim Parker 85 died last nite at 5:30; be buried Fri. morning at Hecker Church & cemetery. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, went along with us to the wake, he looks natural. Koch undertaker, he would be 86 in Sept. Aunt Mary brought plums.

We washed; ironed. Papa went in the woods. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up this afternoon. Bernice got 1 dz. eggs. The prizes at Smithon [sic] yesterday were won $100.00 by Wil Grossman $50.00 Quirin girl; Eichenseer won a quilt, there was $25.00 & set harness & 22 quilts all for 10¢ chance. Bud Braun & Roy Neff was here selling chances for the pinic [sic] on 28th Aug. pap took one.
Sunday, Aug. 4, 1935
Went to Red Bud; Slept all afternoon. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, then we all went to Smithon [sic] Homecoming about 4:30 & was there a crowd; seen the parade, at 5:30, so many floats representing the 12 mons. of year. Hetlesheims car, all decorated advertising the Firemens pinic [sic], with Gus. Frisch & Bill Frilsetu in the rumble seat; dancing afternoon & evening 5¢. dance. open air.
