Uncle Fred went home; Mrs. Rennecker & Mrs. Robert Laut were helping to quilt this afternoon, had supper, also Katie Klotz dropped in, waiting for Arlene. Papa went to Hill’s; on business about selling land. Mr. Oscar Bibler died last Sun. evening at the Red Bud hospital. Mrs. Emma Bickechaupt nee Vogel died Tues. 34 yrs. was buried Thurs. at Burksville; been married since 1931. Our cousin Matthias Crowe of St. Louis, Sun. morning, Thom. brother, died, was buried Wed. morning 60 yrs; ailing since he was hurt in a accident in 1933, was formerly a policeman there, he leave his wife & son Dr. Matt & daughter Viola, & 2 sisters & 1 brother Tom policeman at Waterloo.

Mrs. Cleveland, Mrs. Hy Brand were here helping to quilt, had dinner & supper, Mrs. George Wagner came helped the afternoon, had supper. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here all day again. Papa took eggs up, got 25¢. Hogs are $8.25 top price now. We played pinochle, again this evening; 2 games. The firemans have meeting tonight. George Wagner is elected trustee of the Evangical [sic] Church.
Wednesday, Jan. 9, 1935
We washed, quilt. Uncle Fred walked home, did some work, all day. Papa went to barber shop, also went to see Stehfest, about selling his hiefer [sic]. Osie Neff was here, said it was all right to cut the tree down, by his road, so I guess he will. Bertille finished at the dentist & paid him $18.00, Rose $8.00 & B [Bertille] $10.00, rather busy today. Rose got 3 pulled & 1 filled & Berti got 3 filled, of which, killed 2 nerves. A guy from Cairo going to Mo. hit Brun’s car last night, in front of Mrs. Ida Bruns house, Machines were wrecked, but are going to be repaired. Lester & Eugene Bruns in the car were cut about the face, & Chas. Wagner also was hurt in chest; Bruns had 2 wheels on hard road, & this other guy was drunk & found a wiskey [sic] bottle in his car; his car was injured; don’t know yet, who will stand charges. Our line has telephone meeting at Hill’s, Mr. Rennecker & papa went over; Elections of officers, still have the same ones. Clara Wagner & kids, came & then George also after the meeting, we played 5 hand pinochle. The Ladies Aid have quilting in the Evangical [sic] Church these days.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had breafast [sic], dinner, lunch, supper, they are just staying in Hecker, now roads to muddy. Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary, papa went to E. St. Louis. Awful cloudy & rainy. We are quilting; played cards, this evening, 3 games.
Monday, Jan. 7, 1935
Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had breakfast & dinner here. they & papa went to E. St. Louis. Mr. Robert Laut came got sack alalfa [sic] hay. Osie Neff came asked about cutting a tree down at his road. H. M. Hill here gathering up news; wanted to buy ground along the road by his house, no bargains made yet; it is for parking space. It is awful cloudy; we baked bread, put the Snowball quilt in the frame. We all ate supper, played cards. Starting in to rain.
Sunday, Jan. 6, 1935
Went to Red Bud late mass. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came had dinner here. Josie Keller went out to there place, she went to Oscar’s then for dinner; papa & Uncle Fred went out & pushed her car out, sticking fast in there lane out there; had supper here, & stayed in Hecker all night. Lena Meng came over this afternoon, we had 6 hand pinochle game; she paid Uncle Fred Interest. Miss Keller came this evening, she spent all afternoon at Oscars; this evening till 9:30 up here; played 500 Rummy. She didn’t no [sic – know] much news.
Saturday, Jan. 5, 1935
Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, papa went along out to Henry’s, then they all went to E. St. Louis to the healer, Leona stayed in Waterloo. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed for supper; then we all went to Foster Pond to a birthday & tacky party. Ed Pabst brought corn. Burgdorf looked at the heifer, but didn’t offer no price on it. Hogs $8.00.

Papa hauled 2 loads wood; Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped went to Belleville. Several people Waterloo are on the sick list John Horn, has winter fever, Hy Rhan, flu & etc.
Thursday, Jan. 3, 1935
We washed, beautiful day, wind nice sunshine, Rosalia is making herself a blouse. Papa hauled load butchering wood. Mr. & Mrs. George Wagners 10 Wedding Anniversary today. Mr. David of Bricky Settlement was here, to see how many pigs were sold since Feurer counted them, this is the last time now, & then the check will come next.
Wednesday, Jan. 2, 1935
Cleaned chicken house. Papa went to Red Bud to see Mr. Bergdorf, to see our heifer. Mr. Streck was here to see it Mon. evening, he offered $22.00. Henry said Fr. Aydt & Ed Parker, where here to see us Mon, we were at Belleville, they came out there thought we were butchering out there, they wouldn’t go in the house. Papa went to Waterloo, this afternoon. Berti went up to the Dentist he couldn’t finish it yet, forgot the filling again. The paper comes with the mail carrier every day, instead in the evening, the news gets old; paper says “Colton R feischneider,” of Belleville was critically injured & in St. Mary’s Hospital, auto mobile accident. We went to Geo. Wagners this evening, played cards, Pap & Rose, & Clara & Bert won 5 games; won every game; some hot playing. It also was Clara’s birthday; cookies, apples, root beer were served. We received a card from the Post office in St. Louis, stating there was a letter there & not enough postage on, required 1½ & so we sent it over, what it is, or where its from, we do not know yet.
