Cloudy & colder this morning. Some spring day. Papa went out to Henry’s sowing oats; finished 38 acres; had dinner there. Dyed Bertie’s coat this afternoon navy blue. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, Bertie & her went to the quilting, City Hall Firemen’s quilt; 3 of them, Clara Wagner & O. Lauts & Mrs. Kessler’s & L. Boll & Mrs. Ahrens; lot ladies helping to quilt, day & night. There was a terrible sand storm in southern states, all blowing over this way now, cloudy & hazy; here smoky. Eggs 17¢.

Rose & Berti went out to Uncle Fred’s helped finish & clean up, had dinner there. Papa helped Henry sow oats had dinner out there. We made garden, put out onions etc.; awful warm. Melvin Wagner was over, Chas & Bernice are both sick in bed, with fever & bad cold. Dr. Eckert was there this afternoon & night. Mr. John Armbruster & Lillian had a collision on the Freeburg hard road, she is in hospital, & he is also pretty bad. We went to church. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary also were up, went to church.

We all went out to Uncle Fred’s; helped paper the kitchen, had dinner & supper. Papa went up to Henry’s to help but it rained, he came back over there again, then this afternoon we went out & helped him again, harrowed for him. St. Joseph’s Day.

Henry & Albert Cleveland are up sowing oats; today, had dinner here. Papa helped to harrow; finished up today, up here. We washed, ironed; Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up this evening. Sold 17 doz. eggs today for 17¢ doz. Rosalia is sewing Robert a shirt.

St. Patricks Day. Went to church, went out to Uncle Freds & had dinner & supper, played cards listened to the radio. Mr. Bill Braun of Red Bud came gave us all a ride in his new coach, we all got a chance on one to be given away in Apr. by the Co.; he is a sales agent for chev, working for Schrieber; at Red Bud; we rode out as far Blackjack road & back again, papa drove the car. Oak Grove & Doanhoe’s Brezzy Hill all are having St. Patricks dances tonite, we didn’t go; Lent.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this afternoon we all went to Melcher’s sale in Red Bud, bought flower stand, box books etc. We planted out 50 cabbage plants last night got them from Chas. Goessling at Waterloo, 15¢. We received tax receipts $224.37 this yr. Rained this afternoon getting colder. Rosalia & Berti went to see Mamie Eichenseer, got some patterns, quilt & embroidery; played euchre; had cookies. Papa went uptown this morning.

Cleaned kitchen, got letter from Alice saying everything is O.K. so went to Waterloo this afternoon, paper fixed out, ready to sent to her, for to sign; $15.00 & expense here, for ground, what lies on the north side of road, joining ours. A kid around selling household articles. Went out to the cemetery fixed, Louise grave, it had sunk down, 12 buckets ground in it; so many are down. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, she went to church; they & Oscar Birkner’s were at Ronnenberg’s last night. Ivo Buehler’s birthday yesterday.

Floyd 6 yr. birthday; We had clean up day, washed curtains, scrub basement etc. Went to Red Bud, lent devotions to nite, we celebrated Floyd’s birthday last night there. Papa went to town settled with Schillings lumber bill; they are sawing in Hecker now. The fire chiefs had there truck out today, pumping water in the barrels from Watchel’s & Kammlers wells. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, went to church, lent devotions.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Henry & Leona were up here, papered the dinning [sic] room; had dinner & supper. Leona went home did the chores, & brought the boy’s along up; stayed awhile in the evening. Mr. Janson of Waterloo, sales agent for Nobbe was here this afternoon, looked at the binder. Leona went over to see Mrs. Staufenbiel brought her some material to make a spring coat for her; 4 yds. goods, & linings; pattern etc. Mr. & Mrs. Emil Mehrmanns baby girl Ethyl, was taken to the hospital at Belleville last Sat, & yesterday it died, buried this afternoon, & private funeral. No one could see it, had menertitis [sic – meningitis]; down spine in back; say it is a very catching disease; house has to be fumigated; had it in its throat also.
