Went to mass. Mr. John Schumacher of West of Red Bud died this morning at 2’o clock will be buried Tues. Morn. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed awhile had lunch. This morn, there is snow on the ground. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this evening her & Berti went to church, dedication of a statue of The Mother of Perputal [sic] Help, some one donated it. Fr. Grewenwald & Hellrug of Belleville were here, he made the sermon. Snowing, all white, tonite.

Pap got crushing done. Mr. Rennecker got 1 qt. milk for 5¢. Mr. Kettler of Paderborn was here, looked at the mare, pap went to see his this afternoon, also went to Knab’s. Henry & Leona went to Belleville left the boys here they went skating on the pond. Pap took chev. to Probst’s got a new battery put in $7.00 & fan belt put on 65¢.

Terrible cold this morning, real zero weather. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, he went to Waterloo, Eggs 26¢. Mr. & Mrs. Cyrus Holcomb of Belleville, nee Lela Deuker have a little baby girl born at the hospital on last Tues. 17, Lela has a beauty parlor on W. Washington St. Berti took a chance for 5¢ on basket canned goods; at Eichenseer’s. The Catholic School children has there play tonite; ends school for 2 weeks.
Thursday, Dec. 19, 1935
Cold & snowing in morning, sunshine afternoon. Papa hauled 3 loads wood down, got the cedar tree & hauling manure. Rose baked molasses cookies. We cleaned the front room. Went out to Uncle Freds, gave them some cheese & milk. There is an awful big piece in the paper, that Uncle Fred is accessed more than all Belleville, & than 9 townships, just everything is in, what he was accessed for, sure is the limit; the Belleville people aren’t paying taxes; even some of the beautiful homes pictured in the paper were there is no taxes being paid on.

Pap went to town. Another beautiful day. Pap & Berti went out to Henry’s help saw wood, Cleveland & Emil also helped. Berti ironed & patched out there. Geo. Roever & Jeff Bell looked at the mare said it was to small. Alois Havey called but pap wasn’t home. The New Athens butcher looked at the heifers & cow, didn’t suit him at dads price.

We washed, ironed. Papa went to see Con Myerscough & stopped at the butcher in Red Bud. Hempe Bros. of St. Joe was here looked at the horse & cows. Nice day we washed windows. Mr. Rennecker came over & got qt. milk for 5¢. One of our heifers is sick.

Went to Red Bud church. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here all day, had dinner & supper; played cards this afternoon. We went to Rob. Lauts tonite, played 5 hand pinochle, pap had 1,000 aces. for the first time.
Saturday, Dec. 14, 1935
Pap got crushing done. Con Myerscough & son Leo stopped in to see our mare, didn’t buy yet. Rain this afternoon & nite. Berti got a answer from the Extension Magazaine [sic] that dances in advent & lent, was no sin, & could also go on St. Patricks. night. Myrtle Keim of Waterloo is having a birthday dance at Pautlers tonite. Moonlight Orch. Adm. Gents 25 ladies free.
