Pap & Rose went to Henrys got load oats. Pap & Berti went to Waterloo this afternoon, got last of benifit [sic] wheat AAA check $22.91. Pap got his measurements taken by Peiper for a new suit for Christmas. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, we played 5 hand pinochle, listened to radio.

Rose sewed jumpers. We went to Belleville this afternoon. Rose had her broken tooth looked after by dentist, he has to treat it, & if it hurts, has to have it pulled; come in again next Fri. We went to Steve Renneckers played pinochle broke even, except one game tie, Berti had 800 kings. Pretty cold.

Baked bread, pap hauled hay; Rose is sewing, aprons etc. Rose went to town got jumper goods 20¢ yd. Eggs 30¢ coming down. Bert baked oatmeal cookies, mixed carmels [sic] this eve. Bert wasn’t feeling well.
Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1936
Holiday. Went to 6 o’clock mass. Aunt Mary came here had dinner here. Uncle Fred & Aunt & pap went to Wagner’s sale this afternoon, beautiful day. All had supper here. She went to church closing of 13 hrs. devotion. Fr. Orlet making the sermon. Leo came & took us all along up to there place, played cards, the kids did. 4 of us, the rest talked; also looked at pictures, etc, had cake & wine. Pap bought bench, spool table, fruit jars, & etc. at the sale, everything cheap.
Monday, Dec. 7, 1936
It is 12 above zero this morning, quite a change. We washed. Rose sewed. Pap took the chev. to Probst had him to look it over, it can stand zero he said. Henry & Leona went to Belleville left Billy [Willis] here, went in about 9:30 came back at 4 o’clock. Pap went to Bolstead bought sow & 5 pigs 4 weeks old for $17.00. Bertille went to Mertz’s store, looked for mail & she won the fruit cake, for 4¢ push the name Belle & that won the cake, some luck, it is 98¢ cake, looks good. We had no street lights for awhile this eve. alright now. Eggs 31¢ now.

Went to mass. Pap took his budget envelope back he put in $5.00. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had breakfast with us, then went home. Leo came this afternoon had supper, they went to Belleville to St. Mary’s parish closing of the mission. Omer & Bert went out to Henry’s played cards. It is awful cold tonite.

Uncle Fred brought Aunt Mary up she went along with us to Belleville to Dr. Wagner, pap paid him $71.50 & was allowed $15 for his teeth, the old crown. Raining all day nearly.
Friday, Dec. 4, 1936
Fried in 3 gals sausage, Pap hauled wood with wagon, one in basement & 1 small outside. Chick Brand & Val. Braun of Red Bud took the safe & alarm, etc. out of the bank today. The wedding of the Tipton parish on Thanksgiving Day were in the paper today, Mr. & Mrs. Joe Lengyl will make there home at 2823 A. Keokuk St. St. Louis Mo. & Mr & Mrs Gus Fahey at 3108 Abner Place. St. Louis. Mr. Elmer Winkler & Mamie Crook were married at Waterloo parsonage also. Thanksgiving Day wedding dance at Brezzy [sic] Hill. There were 7 wedding dances, in Monroe Co. on that day the paper says.

Fried down bacon. Went out to Henry’s butchering a big hog; had dinner. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary helped also. Cloudy, snow a little, not much. Henry & family went to Geodelles for supper, his birthday. Leo & Rose went to Jake’s.
Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1936
Henry & family, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, were all up, helped to butcher, had lunch & dinner, butchered the large sow. Started in snowing this afternoon, & rain tonite. Eggs 34¢ today.
