Halloween. Pap got crushing done. The tree man was here. We went to Red Bud church this afternoon. No tricks played much.
Friday, Oct. 30, 1936
Beautiful day. Bill Fritsche look & fix our furnace. Pap went up in woods, got load corn fodder. Frank Kroll wanted to see him, about lots at cemetery, so he had to go out there. Henry Schaefer of Waterloo died, to be buried tomorrow, at Hecker cemetery. Fr. Aydt to have mass at Waterloo at 10′ o clock then out to cemetery, there is 3 funeral masses at Waterloo, 2 are Stackels, one being Hy. Emery’s father in law, & Schaefer. Joe Gregson & Lester bought 2 acres of land from Wil. Harbaugh, $800.00, going to operate & build a filling station, it is already staked of. We went to Belleville this afternoon, pap went to dentist again.

We went out to Henry’s butchering a big hog, but it was pretty warm. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary helped also. Went to Paderborn to euchre tonite, still didn’t win anything, played 12 games, dance after, musci [sic] by Skaers & Schoenborn; pretty good crowd. Ed & Carrie were at Henry’s yesterday morn. left for Alab. today taking Mrs. Kessler along back with them over the winter. Eggs .28¢.
Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1936
Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had dinner & supper here, we sawed wood up in the field this afternoon. Geo. Schilling sawed, & J. Mueth, Walter Braun, Ed. Mueth, Al. Cleveland, Henry, Uncle & pap. We went to the euchre at School hall, didn’t win a thing, played 10 games, had cake walk after. We had 2 chickens for dinner.

Nice day, cool. The tree man was here. We went out to Henry’s helped clean bedroom today had dinner. A man here selling electric machine for all kind of work. Mr & Mrs Ed Brand were at Belleville at Frick’s funeral & stopped in here, on way to Levi Gregson’s; to say Hello! Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came from Cortner’s funeral at Hecker here. Mr. William Freund 27 & Marcella Fahey 25 are being married at Tipton this morning, attendants twin [to bride] Estella Fahey & Joe Freund; no wedding dance. Miss Dorothy Schoenborn & Sutter of Millsdadt [sic] married at Belleville this morning, attendants Jac Schoenborn, Rose Stul & Rudy Helfrich & Tillie Rhinehardt, friends, dance held at Stolbergs Lake Belleville.
Monday, Oct. 26, 1936
We washed. Pap went out to Henry’s & Uncle Adam’s. We went to Mr. Geo. Hepp funeral this afternoon, in Dec. he would be 103 yrs. old. grandchildren pallbearers, large funeral, the weather was ugly & cold; couldn’t all get in church, that was at the Round Prairie Church & Cemetery. Mr. Nic Cortner Sr. died will be buried tomorrow afternoon, Hecker cemetery. Isadore Cowell of Red Bud was buried last Sat. afternoon there & Mr. Ernst Frick of Belleville died, & will also be buried tomorrow afternoon.

Raining all day & nite. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped awhile. Shooting matches, posponed [sic] I suppose, Wm. Ganley was to have his today. Oak Grove has free dance, musci [sic] by Carle.
Saturday, Oct. 24, 1936
We went to Waterloo, took wall paper back, went to Hawson’s sale, didn’t buy anything, junk. Jerome Meng & Gundlack from bottoms was here, looking for drill. Henry & Floyd brought load corn up. Billy [Willis] isn’t feeling well.
Friday, Oct. 23, 1936
Pap went out to get corn fodder. We ironed, patched. Mrs. Vera Boo canadiate [sic – candidate] was here left her card for a vote, Miss Mildred Gambach went around with her. We started fire in furnace, cold.
Thursday, Oct. 22, 1936
Pap went up in the woods with the tree man, he brought some honey & we strained it got 3 glasses. Ed. Schineder looked at the horses. We went out to Henry’s he butchered; we brought some along; had beef soup dinner & liver. Cold today, & nite. Tipton has euchre tonite. We paid electric light bill $1.00 for 8 kilowatts hrs. Leo came & we all went out to Henry’s; played cards, pinochle, 6 games. won every one, had fresh sausage & cake. We took all the flowers out, pretty cold tonite.
