Raining nearly all day, we washed, dug sweet potatoes this afternoon, suppose to get cold tonite & tomorrow, with frost & freezing tomorrow nite; we got nice potatoes & quite a few. Eggs are 27¢ now.

Cleaned house, planted out flowers & papered pots. Sure beautiful day, windy but nice and warmer. The Evangicals [sic] have euchre at Kammlers tonite. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, & they & Rose & Berti went to the euchre. Berti got cook pot. 9 points the rest got nothing. Edwin Watchel got attendance prize blanket; quilt by lotto was won by Freida Koerber again that is the 3rd one she got at Hecker, now, blanket by Mrs. Pickett, & table cloth, Josie Kaiser; not much of a crowd & not many prizes either.

Mission Sun. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here awhile. Omer brought 2 fish here this afternoon & boy we had fish fry, sure were good, couldn’t eat it all. People from South of Red Bud looked at the heifers. E. Rieso & W. Mueth have birthday dance at Pautlers. The Hecker bank was sold at Public Auction in Waterloo, Court House last Sat. Yesterday Ed. Weber bought the building $500. Articles that was in it & safe Burkhardt of Red Bud got for $35.00 & 80 acres farm. Wolf real estate agent got $1300 & 40 acres Weber $800.

Pap got crushing done, went out driving with the buggy & horse & mule, nice ride, I think. Traded the mule for white mare horse by Pleuger. Oak Grove has a free dance tonite, Carle Orch.

Pap helped Henry finished sewing wheat, he had dinner there. Rosalia took the truck out to get load oats; for crushing. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this eve. brought pickles up. Omer came awhile to. The Republicans have meeting at Kammlers Hall tonite J. Schmidt & Jess Brown speakers. Bernice got doz. eggs 26¢.
Thursday, Oct. 15, 1936
Pap went out sewing wheat again with the spring wagons. Rose took load wheat to Waterloo $1.13, we helped Leona, washed & stretched curtains; no school today Teacher meeting. We had dinner out there. Wheat is $1.13 that is what we got. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up this afternoon. A Hucksteer [sic? – huckster], from Red Bud was here comes every Thurs. has fruit & vegetables, we bought bananas. Budde got our old radio, took it to Guker’s at Red Bud; we kept his Philco electric, on even trade.
Wednesday, Oct. 14, 1936
We cooked soap, cleaned the yard, seperated [sic] & marked chicken. Pap & Berti went out to Henry’s with the wagon, Berti helped clean front room, brought load corn fodder along back. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up, fixing her dress; had Oscar’s baby along to. Sure beautiful weather. The tree man was here again, he won’t start hauling for awhile, they are working in the bottoms now. Mr. & Mrs. Walter Neff have baby. Pres. Roosevelt came to St. Louis & E. St. Louis & made a speech, 400,000 people.

Registration Day. We cleaned chicken houses, sewed. Pap got load corn fodder. Went out to help Henry with the team harrow & sow wheat. Radio said in Wis. snowed yesterday. Mercury down to 20; cold & children skated on the icy streets. A man around delivering Wards Sale specials for the weekend.

We washed, ironed. Nice day. Made hay 3 loads this aftr. A man here selling brooms, & one looking for work for eats. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up this eve. Eggs 25¢ now. Wheat is $1.15.
