Pap hauled lumber from Schilling’s all day. Bert [Bertille] washed ironed worked in garden. Friederich of Tipton was here looked at the mare, they made a trade, pap gets cow & hog $80., he gets mare $135.00; tomorrow. Rain a little tonite.

Monday, May 10, 1937

Cleaned chicken house & barn, worked in garden. Pap went on business trip & also to Waterloo to a big sale on Pautler’s farm west of town; people from Marrissa [sic] have a sale, on stock & tractors etc. Cool this morn. A fellow here selling household articles; bought fly swatter. The fire engine whistle was sounded this morn; called to the home of Andrew Mueth in Paderborn, were there house was on fire; but it was put out, before they got there. Rose came this afternoon, helped plant out flowers; took some along home, we planted all the house flowers out. Mrs. Rennecker came over awhile this afternoon. Jake Neff was here on business this evening. Cool again tonite.

Sunday, May 9, 1937

Mothers Day. Went to Red Bud mass. We received a 2 books chances yesterday from Dupo, 1st prize $700.00 & 2nd. $300.00, pinic [sic] on May 31; we get them every year. Went out to A. [Aunt] Mary’s for dinner Josie Keller was out & this afternoon all went to Leo’s had supper there. Leo & Rose came down to milk station this morn, put in complain about getting there milk back all the time; they brought some sour milk along here to make cheese with. Uncle Fred & A. Mary came up this eve.; we went to the firemens dance at Manier’s Hall nice crowd, Skaer’s played; cleared $40. at the door. Adm. 25¢.

Saturday, May 8, 1937

Put our chicks out to 5 hens, feeding Wayne from Mertz, he delivered 100 lb. & bran for ducks. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary & Pap went to M. Elonka sale at Tipton this morn; didn’t buy nothing. Uncle got shovel & baskets. Al. May’s boy brought the Int. here for Uncle Fred. We went to Leo & Rose tonite, took flowers along to plant out, & A. Mary took tomatoe plants. Clem Parker has a new car, delivering milk, set a milk cans in underneath.

Friday, May 7, 1937

Went to Belleville, pap got his teeth again, ain’t much better so far. Another beautiful day. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up. We got 132 chicks, from 12 hens. Clarence Braun’s have baby girl born Wed. at Belleville hospital. Mrs. Adam Eckert sold her house in town here to Adam Eckert, transfer in paper. We have 2 ducks, 1 egg didn’t hatch & the another 1 is broken. Set 5 more.

Thursday, May 6, 1937

Acenscion [sic] Holiday. Went to mass at 6 at Red Bud. Fr. Stern is very low received last sacrements [sic] Mon. Uncle Adam’s birthday 87 yrs. We went to Belleville, pap went to dentist, & we did shopping. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary & Leo & Rose were all in there also, & lot of people from all over. Uncle Fred & A. Mary came planted cabbage plants 50 across the street. Miss Mildred Gambach is at Belleville hospital operated on. Sly. Kabureck is again at home. Brauns from Eliza Ball’s house moved to W. Monike’s house last week. For one day at least it didn’t rain so far. Uncle Fred & A. Mary, Henry & family, & Leo & Rose were all here this evening.

Wednesday, May 5, 1937

Another day of showers & hail, sure awful. Our chicks are hatching now these days. Radio say shower again. Mrs. Chas. Wagner broke her wrist & one of Ed. Parkers boy’s his hip; we heard. Henry had an exray [sic] taken of Floyd’s; it is set right, now they are sure; Dr. won’t change the bandage till 6 weeks he said; he is getting along alright now.

Tuesday, May 4, 1937

We washed, ironed patched, rain & heavy showers & hail, this afternoon & eve; we planted cabbage & sweet potatoes plants out; Request card for Jim & Dick to play a No. for paps birthday came over radio today. A guy here selling apple, took pk. 45¢. Chas. Helfrich & son got load hay $11.00 & 17 bus. oats @ 60¢ & wheat 1½ @ $1.27; all feed for his stock & chickens, he is going to move on Mrs. Wihelms farm, by Red Bud. Eichenseers are in  & Co. are having a Purina Meeting & Show at Kammlers free tonite, “Hidden Harvest,” we seen it last year at Red Bud; were pap got 25 chicks attendance prize. tonite they are giving as prizes 2 – 25 lb. sacks purina feed & dairy hopper. We went to the show, pretty nice crowd hall filled for conditions of weather. Ed. Parker & Adam Brauns won the feed & Al. Cleveland the hopper.

Monday, May 3, 1937

Pap’s 59 birthday. Pretty nice this morn, but rain, thunder all afternoon. Pap went to see Chas. Helfrich about selling hay. Pap took eggs up 16¢ brought beef bone had soup for dinner. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Henry & family & Leo & Rose were all here this eve; had lemonade & cake.

Sunday, May 2, 1937

Went to mass; Fr. Stern had it, but he isn’t so good he was invited to Ruma tomorrow on Pius Simpsons golden Wedd. anniversary, but he couldn’t go, says all he could invite us for his funeral, don’t think he will live to celebrate jubilee. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had dinner here, then went home. It rained again all afternoon & nite, it has rained every Sun. since Easter I believe & almost everyday.
