Cut in 12 qts kraut, canned 3 1/2 plums baked cookies, etc. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary worked up here. Braun & stoff guy man stoped [sic] this morn, wanted lumber for make stoff.

Washed, ironed & patched. Pap went to Red Bud to get lumber for wheat bin. Bill [Klein] came told us that Louis Schoenborn & Isd. Watchel had accident last nite at around 12:30 Isd. driving his Louis V8 – run in ditch & turned it over, & Isd. going through top & was killed & Louis has only few scratches, car is wrecked, happened on oil road between Floraville & Paderborn. Isd. is at Millsdadt [sic] Funeral Home 23 yrs. old. Hy Armstutz was here wanted potatoes, we didn’t have none dug now. Mauff kroger man was here, didn’t need nothing. Some are threshing today, anyway south of here Klotz’s threshing today. Leo & family were down. Emil came over a little while.

Went to mass. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stayed awhile. Bill [Klein] & Bert [Bertille] went to Smithton Turner Picnic, afternoon & eve.

So hot, this morn. again yesterday 99 in shade. 109 on street, Chas Stookey said. Pap went to Red Bud got oil changed 4040 miles, nearly got year now. Everybody busy threshing now. Thurs. they were 500 men in bunch came to W.P.A. Quarry made fellows stop working, got 40 hr., guys from E. St. Louis were getting 80 [cents] were cut to 40 [cents], they want it back to 80 again going around stopping all W.P.A. jobs; after that 300 more men came to see if they were working closed down. Rained this eve. & pretty heavy up north at Belleville.

Went to Leo’s threshing. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary & Leona helped; pap made straw stack; he finished had them for dinner, lunch & machine guys & pitcher for supper; got 714 bus. from 31 acres. & @ 63 [cents]. top price. good wheat & turned out good. Bert [Bertille] went home did feeding. it was 10 o’clock till we got home; worked late to finish.

Went to Leo’s, canned apples, prepared for threshing, so hot today. We took Marita along home; they came this eve. going to thresh tomorrow, have them for dinner. Bill [Klein] came Henry brought wheat money, so far $65.45 for 134 bus. only got for some 48 * 53-45-50-52[cents]. to Waterloo & E. St. Louis; he got about 580 bus. wheat don’t weigh out; & no price. Lewis Kumke was buried at Evansville this morning.

Rain this morn. stops threshing today. Went to Red Bud to Waterloo this afternoon. McKonky [editor’s note – I believe she means Kumke here since she had crossed out McKonky and wrote in Kumke in yesterday’s post]. is at Evansville parlor, will also be buried there tomorrow morn. Mueth was on wrong side of slap & no lights they thing. Awful hot this afternoon 80 [degrees]. Everything closed at Waterloo. Leo & family came, went to Red Bud to Dr. Pautler with Marita, she has sores on her arm, gave her salve to put on. Emil came over, wasn’t much fire works put on in town. Ed Brand & wife are here from Alb. [Alabama] at Heyl’s at Waterloo, stop over at Emils, on way home from a trip to river, also at Levi’s.

Cloudy. Bert [Bertille] washed, ironed. Threshing outfits were all nearly going to start this morn. but we had little rain & cloudy, so start this afternoon I guess. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up, working across street. Lips Mueth & McConkey Kumpke of Red Bud, had head on collusion by West of Red Bud by Schlotmanns some were McCokey Kumpke boy 28 is dead he worked for Scribers garage.

Went to mass. Bill [Klein] & Bert [Bertille] went out to Henry’s this afternoon. Leo & family were also there & Geodell’s they were combining, doesn’t go so good we had lunch there. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were at Leo’s they weren’t at home, so they came here had lunch.
