S. Rennecker got 1 qt. milk. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & Rose & Bert went along down to Boll’s, a little while, then went to Belleville, Bert got coat $5.67, nice one. Mr. Boll was 87 yrs. old large funeral Koch Undertaker; people came from all over. Berti mailed a card for Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary a request for Oscar Birkner’s 13 Wedding Ann. to sing “Red Sales in the Sunset,” Sat. morn, & also asked for acidine [sic – accordion]. Presidents’ Birthday Ball all over this evening, 1 at Waterloo at Odd Fellows Hall.

Friday, Nov. 22, 1935

Cold this morning, froze hard last nite. Pap is hauling corn fodder. We baked bread. Mr. & Mrs. Henry Millman of Red Bud celebrated there 50th Wedding Ann. at Red Bud on Nov. 3; children were all present, except Geo. who is in Minnesota. Eggs are 31¢ here.

Sunday, Oct. 6, 1935

Awful cold, the green corn is froze. Went to Red Bud. Floyd Thompson is help out at the Texaco filling station there. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped a little while. Mr & Mrs Joe Neary – nee Martha Schilling have a little baby boy born Oct. 4. Mr & Mrs Geor. Schilling grandparents first time. Barry May has a shooting match, also one at Oak Grove; Harry Kammler is giving a dance tonite Moonlight Orch. Adm 25¢. Donahue’s got a 2nd Anniversary free dance, Carlos Orch. playing. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & took us along to Donahue’s, big crowd. We went out to Henry’s this afternoon, nobody home, was expecting Kruse to come & look at the horses, so we stayed awhile, then went to Wm. Ganley’s, but got no answer there, found out through that they were at home; but they didn’t hear us. Jack Cody was put in jail last nit, for accusing Farago for burning his barn down, one day last week; is out again now.

Tuesday, Sept. 17, 1935

Papa went out to Henry’s; cut some clover hay off. Mr & Mrs. Steve Rennecker’s wedding anniversary. Sure is some hot day’s. Quite a few people from K.C. pinic [sic] at Murphysboro Sun; Eichenseer family went. Henry was using the team for harrowing so papa came home. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, he took load wheat to Red Bud, got 95¢. We got the free Sacred Heart ring; that was send for through the Extension Magazine, but only one came & 10 medals.

Monday, Sept. 9, 1935

Rain all morning. Yesterday was Mr. Mrs. Joe Neary’s 1st year wedding anniversary. Ida Braun 2 yrs. dead. Bill Vogt & man was here, they went to Blackburn’s, delivered a hog, then went up to Henry’s & looked at the mares. Werner & guy from over by New Athens was here, looking for a drill & other tools, but ours was already sold. Papa was by Renneckers awhile, she gave him some flower slips for us to plant out. Eggs 24¢ today.

Friday, Aug. 23, 1935

We canned peaches, tomatoes, pickles, baked pie. Henry came to cut hay, had lunch. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this afternoon; it is there 37 Wedding Ann. today we went out this evening, had supper. Henry & family went to Waterloo to see a 10¢ show. Mrs. Mary Cody died last Sat. aged 74 yrs. she is Mrs. Perry May’s & Jack Cody’s mother. There sure was some fellow, entered the home of a aged couple at Maeystown & intended committing murder, but the gun didn’t fire; so he hit the couple unsconsious [sic], the door had been open & screen door wasn’t hooked; had blood hounds to trace it; & tracked through a woods to a car track so far nothing has been found, he left his gun lye, & it is at the Sheriff office at present. A robber also entered Louis Stadter’s home near Poe Station, gaining entrance by forcing the door open with an axe, Sun. afternoon, awhile the family were helping threshing took 2 suits clothes $4.00 each etc. & he wasn’t found either so far.

Saturday, Aug. 3, 1935

Papa got a haircut. We had chicken dinner, dressing, today. We are invited to Donahue’s to Mauers Wedding Ann. & also to Al. Cleveland’s party. Miss Miles & set of St. Louis is coming out with the music, it is his birthday. Alb. was on the Aug. 1 celebrating all together; Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & Rose & Berti went along to Cleveland’s barn dance 2 kegs beer, sandwiches, cake. Gents 25¢. Papa wasn’t feeling well. It rained a little this evening. we came home from the party at 1:30.

Friday, May 24, 1935

Henry’s birthday & wedding Ann. 31 yrs. & 7 yrs. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up all day had lunches & dinner here. We worked garden. Henry came & cut hay, had lunch. School kids was here selling tickets for there play on May 31; we didn’t take none. 25 Adm. Planted out tomatoes & sweet potatoes plants; Went out to Henry’s birthday this evening, had cake, we & Uncle Fred & Aunt were the only ones present; took cabbage plants along.

Friday, Nov. 16, 1934

Went to Belleville this morn, sold 52 lb. old hens 20¢. Ben Schilling was here brought clover seed; 95 lbs. Papa got the oil changed in the whippet, by Probst’s. Mr. R. S. Butler of Burksville was buried last Mon. morning at Waterloo, aged 71 yrs. Mrs. Butler died last June; he was buried also at Waterloo, seven priests served at the mass. Mrs. Eliza Ganley died 1 yr. today.

Tuesday, Oct. 2, 1934

Papa & Rosalia went out & got a load wheat. Mrs. Rennecker has a boarder Ferd [Fred?] Smith. The St. Augustine Parish are having a euchre, lotto, pinochle; tonight; in the hall. We cooked kettle soap. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, we all went to the euchre, Rosalia had 8 points, she got a glass & plate, the rest of us got nothing had 7 points. Cecilia Coop won attendance prize, pillow cases. Mr. Albert Griffin was fired at the St. Louis Dairy Station here, another guy Smith got on his place. Frank Hilpert’s wedding ann. today.
