Bertille & Rosalia went out to Aunt Mary’s & finished the dresses. Papa went to Waterloo & renew our Waterloo paper, the times. This afternoon he took the chev. out to Barthel’s & got the oil changed (14342 miles). Hill’s cooking apple butter. Hill was here & told Papa about the telephone meeting tomorrow evening at his place. It rained nearly all night.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up after wheat, he wants to sow some today. Papa is hauling coal. He got the oil changed in the Whippet at Barthel’s 8952 miles. Rosalia & Bertille went out to Henry’s this afternoon we helped to clean the summer kitchen & baked 2 cakes, for the birthday Sun. We had lunch there. We picked 1½ bu. tomatoes this evening, & cut 1 bu up for cathsup [sic] & cooked & strained them. Eggs are 19¢ a doz. we sold a rooster spring today, a man stopped.

We washed, ironed, patched, Rosalia went out to Henry’s to get papa he took Henry’s team back. Then he went up to see Uncle Adam, then they went up to Barthel’s, Papa had a talk with Nic Schaefer, about the cemetery. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up this afternoon to plant rose bushes. Papa went out to see Wm. Ganley, he bought a pig from him for $6.00. Tonight is a public dance at Wiegand’s brick house.

Papa & Rosalia are fixing fence along the road this morning. I noticed this morning that Lester Gregson has a new truck to haul milk, now. There was 2 ladies here & wanted something to eat, there machine broke & they & the family had nothing to eat, so we gave them a half loaf bread & sausage, they didn’t have no money, some gas station gave 2 gals. to go on they said. I seen in the paper that Mrs. George Schilling got $50 for the turkey’s that was killed by stray dogs. Bill Haudrich & Florence Buss where published last Sun. for the first time. Hecker ball team where lucky last Sun. they both won, one at Valymer [sic] & the other with Hecker & Red Bud. Papa drove up to Barthel’s to get the Whippet repaired. Eggs are 14¢ now. Alvera Braun is awful bad sick the way we heard, she is in bed all the time now, swollen so bad.

We went out to Uncle Freds, & finished the hay & also a dress, we where there for lunch, dinner. We took her along up as far as Hy. Birkner’s to help for thresher’s, on our way home. This afternoon Mr. Hill was here collecting telephone dues. In the evening we drove to Freeburg to see Ed. Classin about some wire, but it is the same price as Hecker, so we didn’t take any. We stopped at Barthel’s & paid the Whippet battery recharged for $1.50. When we got home George Wagner came over & said Henry was calling for us, so I called out but got no answer.

This morning we went out to Henry’s it told us about a cheap team of horses. From there we went over to Uncle Fred’s to help put up hay. We where there for lunch, dinner, lunch. Hy. Armstutz was also helping. This evening papa went out to Barthel’s & had the battery recharged for the Chev. for 85¢. When he came back, we all went out to Mrs. Hover & inquired about a Kelley having a team of horses for sale. We went then to see him, he lives on Mrs. Donahue place along the hard road by Red Bud. He has 2 horses, but will only sell 1 now & askes $35.00 for him. On our way home we stopped at Henry’s.

Odillo Eichenseer was here this morn trying to fix our Whippet, but he couldn’t, him & Papa drove up to Barthel’s got a coil, still it wouldn’t go. Then he went home for dinner, afterwards tried it again, but still wouldn’t work, so Papa & Rosalia pulled it up to Barthel’s garage. Mr. Wm. Harbaugh from Foster Pond was here trying to sell us some Moorman’s Mineral, but we still had it out in the chicken house yet.

Those people from Belleville were here again this morning to see about Caldwell’s farm, but it is all off now. They only want to rent, & he won’t do that. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this evening. Eggs are 17¢ today. Papa took the Chev. up to Barthel’s garage this afternoon & got the batteries put in again. We cleaned the chicken houses & put new straw in it. Clarence Rettinghouse had a accident & smashed his machine all to pieces in Belleville last night.

Henry & family & Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were all here for dinner today. Uncle Fred & the kids also had lunch here this morning. We all went over to see Uncle Fred’s property this afternoon. Then, Henry & Leona & Aunt Mary went up to church to confession because tomorrow is 13 hour Adoration. George Wagner is butchering today. Steve Rennecker is the butcher. Tonight is a dance at Papenberg’s, but we can’t go on account of church tomorrow. Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary, Oscar Birkner, Hy. Ronederberg, Jerome Cortner, Clarence Rettinghouse, Ray Armbruster were all down at Evansville last night at a dance & Chicken Supper by Ronenbergs relation, Marie Davis birthday. Papa got oil changed in the Chev., yesterday at Barthels Garage cost $1.10 12305 miles. Philip Freund was here this evening.
