We had little rain this morn. again but it hailed at Leo’s, & places. We went up Bert [Bertille] did the baking etc; rest picked berries. 23 gal; picked apples. to take to Belleville, they already sold 23 gals. Wed. there Marita came along home with us; over nite good girl.

Went to Orlet’s this morn. Pap drove binder. Jake had to work in quarry, till noon, then he worked this afternoon; had lunch, dinner. brought Marita along home again. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up this afternoon. We put our berries away got 6 qts.

Canned 3½ qts. berries & baked 2 pies. Went to Belleville, dentist & church. Uncle Fred was up early this morn, working corn, before it got to hot. There is a a free farewell dance at Oak Grove tonite, he is going back to Burksville again. Alois & Gerti stopped wanted to take me [Bertille] long to New Athens, didn’t go.

Sure hot today. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came this afternoon. Bert [Bertille] painted kitchen chairs, table, cool oil stove. Mehrmann came got 7 doz. eggs. @ 17¢. S. Rennecker got 1 bu. wheat, he went shocking wheat at Heyl’s tonite, 5 are going to schock [sic] want to finish. 110 acres Walter Heyl has out. C. Buehler has 130. Ivo Buehler brought a letter here from Rose [Rosalia]; she say’s are going to finish cutting wheat today; also finished with the berries 13 qt.

Went out to Uncle Fred’s picked 4 gals. berries. Made ½ gal. & 23 glasses jelly & canned 4 qts., had lunch at A. [Aunt] Mary, came home & put berries away; finished varnishing in kitchen.
Friday, June 22, 1934
We went out to Uncle Freds picked 1½ gal. berries, made jelly, had lunch there. Papa went out to Henry’s helped set up schrocks. Mr. Ralph Neff 25 & Annie Dietz 24 were married Sat. June 16 at Catholic Church in Waterloo, Celestine, bridesmaid, & Herman Diez groomsmen; they are going to live in St. Louis; were he is employed.

Henry was here for lunch, dinner & lunch, supper, he finished cutting wheat up here & took the binder along. Leona & the kids brought him up & they went home again this morn, she canned 31 qt. berries. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up awhile this evening. Fr. Grootens has a dance in the hall tonight. Papa built a little hog house, & they moved it with the horses, back to the straw shed. eggs are 9¢ today.
