Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped in, he went to Red Bud on business & paid Ins. Ass. bill $7.00 yesterday. Mr. Hill collected telephone dues. Went to Belleville this morn. got 27 [cents] for eggs. Wittenauers finished sowing wheat.

Cloudy with showers. Went to mass. Children made there first Holy Communion; all dressed in white. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped in after mass awhile. Hubert McDermoot & Miss Schmidt were published for 2nd. time today. Mr. & Mrs. Lerow Haudrich are having there wedding dance at Totsch’s tonite, Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary got invitation card. The Happy Ramblers Orc. are playing & giving a dance at Kammlers tonite. Bill [Klein] came Bert [Bertille] went along to Dr. Eckerts, he wanted to pay him.

Went out to Henrys got load oats, also corn. A fellow here wanted something to eat. Chas. Helfrich got 20 bu. oats 40 [cents] paid $5 today. At 3:30 fire alarm was sound, fire at Harry Kammlers saloon house, chimney, starting in side; not so much damage done. Bert [Bertille] paid electric bill – 18 hrs. $1.39. this mon. Colder this eve. 28 [degrees]

Cold 20 to be 16 tonite. Schmidt delivered egg mash & articles. Triple birthday dance at Keims at Floraville tonite. Bert [Bertille] got mail & paid the bill. Henry & family came this eve.; we played 2 games pinochle. Snowing a little.
Monday, Aug. 9, 1937
Hugo Radau Orch. of Waterloo played for dance pinic [sic], pretty good musci [sic], yesterday. So hot this morn. Canned 2 qts. tomatoes & pickles, cooking catsup again. Painter is here again. We went to Friedrich at Tipton, looked at his mule, [illegible] he paid his note, from buying the mare last spring. Then we went to Waterloo, paid paint bill at Hamachers & toilet lumber for Henry at Grasses; stopped at Henrys took them some peaches, she has about 150 bottles catsup cooked; also stopped at Emil’s awhile. Went to Leo’s & Rose tonite, took peaches along, canned 2 qts; took plow share along for him; had supper there. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up, cutting lawn. Eggs 17¢ hog $13.50.

Cloudy & cold, rainy. Pap went on business trip. Sure cold radio says frost tonite. Eggs 17¢. Pap went to Griffins got the money for oats, 9 bus. @ 60¢. what he got Sat.

Pap went to Waterloo. Vic Eichenseer brought a $53. radio here for us to try out. We went to free dance at Paulters, nice crowd. Papa went to Louis Armstutz’s & paid for lime dust. $13.

We washed, ironed. Uncle Fred & pap went to Waterloo, made a trade with Nobbe, his 1934 chev; & $195. for a 1936 Chev. coupe, will get it by next week; They had dinner, here chicken. Pap went out to help Henry plowing, he got stuck with the tractor this afternoon; from there he went to G. Schillings paid lumber sawing, $7.30 – 815 ft @ 90. Jac. Erle came, we paid him $19.60 Ins. now we are house insured in there co. not with Rapp anymore. Watchels & Lauts put there electric wires up again; today.
