Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, then we all went to Waterloo to Pautler’s Park, Tiptown labor day pinic [sic]. Berti won alarm clock playing & bluey, Aunt Mary 3 pc. set knife for kitchen use; nice crowd, Moonlighters playing, dancing in afternoon free. evening supper 50¢ gents 25 ladies 15.

Went to church. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped a little while. Went to the Evangical [sic] Church pinic [sic] this evening, Rosalia won tablecloth, playing bluey. The quilts were raffled to Luella Bruns & Steve Rennecker. Dudenhoeffer’s were at Reheis today. Floraville band played at the pinic [sic] this afternoon, & Nite Hawks from Waterloo played for the dance, we went in.

It is awful cold, had ice last night; The Evangical [sic] League have Euchre, pinochle, bluey & dance in Kammlers Hall to nite. Buddy Ettling was here last night, wanted papa to help him bring the heifers up today. Papa went out to Henry’s, Ettling couldn’t bring them because they had to go St. Louis to a funeral, this afternoon. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & Rosalia & Tillie went to the euchre, Rose got pillow cases; Aunt Mary got plates glass. Rheinhardt furnished musci [sic] for the dance, also 2 Skaers boy’s; it was an awful large crowd, the tables where fill in euchre & pinochle, & they had to get more chairs to play bluey, just crowded & not many prices [sic – prizes]. Adm. 25¢.

Today is band concert in Smithon [sic], & the News Democrat Corres. was to have there pinic [sic] at Daab’s ClubHouse but was given up now on account of the concert. there is pinic [sic] & cold supper here, given by the Evangical [sic] church; we went down awhile, watch the ball game between Red Bud & Hecker, the latter won 5 to 3; there wasn’t much doing at the pinic [sic] in the afternoon, everybody was at Smithon [sic]; at the band concert; the Koehler’s Orch. furnished music for the pinic [sic], Casper Koehler, Rahn, Cowell, Auelibou, are in the band. Uncle Fred won the quilt that was raffled, & a dandy. Bertille got pair pillow cases at playing bluey. Ed Schilling was published for 3 times & wedding will be Wed. morn. 8 o’clock at Red Bud dance at Oak Grove in the evening. Mamine Mueth & Bess Hillmer where published 1st time in Waterloo.

It is cool this morn, after the rain yesterday. Bertille went to the dentist this morn, got one finished & this afternoon got 3 more filled, & he cleaned them too, for $11.50. Septore from E. St. Louis stopped again & took 6 doz. eggs along, 25¢ doz. The Evangelical Ladies Aid are having a euchre at Kammler’s Hall this eve. We all went, 25¢ don. [donation] We went up to Mamie’s first & she went along over. Papa & Rosalia got prizes, a dish, & lemon squeezer, Papa had 5 points & Rosalia 7, Bertille 4 & Mamie had 4. It wasn’t a very large crowd at all. 11 tables in euchre, & about 25 bluey players. It started in to rain after we got home. Papa got Int. from Hempe.

Nice day, little windy, we sprouted & planted 30 rows of potatoes, people are working in gardens. Rosalia took 9 doz. eggs & got 9¢ doz. tonite. There is a Euchre & Bluey in the new school hall, tonite. Fr. Grooten had singer here yesterday morning from St. Louis, choir, & organ player. We set 10 hens & incubator.

We all went to the pinic [sic] about 2:30. Had supper there, then went home & done the feeding & went back again, the Skaer’s boys played until 10 o clock. We met Irvin & Jake from St. Louis, there. The quilts were raffled to Mrs. Adolph Spalt, & to her sisters from St. Louis. In the bleuey [sic] stand they gave a 32 piece dinner set, it was won by Leo Cortner. Mrs. Adolph Rittmeyer died about 4 o clock this evening, her father died also on a pinic [sic] serveral [sic] years ago. Mr. Jake Mueth [ed. note: “Jake Mueth” is crossed out] of Belleville died, & Mr. Grossman of Smithon, [sic] Marshal Hill’s fatherinlaw was found dead in bed this morning.

Papa went to church this morning the rest of us didn’t go. Tonight the Ladies Aid is giving a euchre & Bluey in Kammler’s Hall. There is also one in Tiptown & tomorrow night the Catholics got one. A rush before lent. Schneiders got the measles also. The way they say. Roy Staunebiels kids & Cletus Reagan also got the measles now. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went to Armstutz before the euchre tonight, because we got the measles here. Rosalia is feeling alright but the measles ain’t gone away yet. There were 18 tables tonight at the euchre and Bluey.

Papa went up in the woods this morning & Rosalia went out to Henry’s to help Leona fry down beef. She took 4 gal. lard along. Tonight is Bluey (?) in the church Hall & 100 turkeys & geese given away as prizes. We were there. Rosalia got a turkey tom. Lester Gregson & Mr. Williams the feed man from E. St. Louis, was here this afternoon, we ordered a sack of feed. Lester is going to bring it tomorrow night.
