Wednesday, Jan. 31, 1934

We washed. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & Josie, here for dinner & supper, played pinochle this evening then had midnite lunch 11:30. Josie held 1500 trump twice hand running, & 600 queens & round house all in same game. Bert had 600 queens. Papa & Uncle Fred got Josie’s machine up from Ben Heyl’s, pulled it up behind Uncle’s car. Ed Neff started it today & put in alchol [sic] all for $1.00. Josie took cheese, butter, sausage & things along, Mr. Talbot delivered 5 lbs. here for 22¢ a lb.

Wednesday, Dec. 13, 1933

We washed, hung in the basement, cloudy & rainy out today. Pap took the chev to Ed. Neff’s got brakes thigten [sic – tighten] for 35¢. Fried down bacon & sausage. Eggs are only 19¢ here. Helfrich hauled corn. We went out to Uncle Freds, sugar cured meat, & played pinochle.

Saturday, Nov. 11, 1933

Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary & Henry & family where all up butchering. Uncle butchered one here also 215 lbs; they had lunch, dinner, here. Ed. Neff got our Whip. & ground the valves for $2.00 today. “Armistice Day.” Harry Kammler has a dance; tonite. Adm. 25¢ to “Len Kirk & his Missouri Ramblers” playing. Mr. & Mrs. Frank Manier moved there family & household goods to St. Louis, where he is going to start a store. We put fresh sausage & eggs on our sign.

Thursday, Oct. 26, 1933

We all went to Waterloo this afternoon, papa went to Rechschidor he was going to have implement sale, in town, but didn’t no people came, so they called it of. We took our Whippet to Horn’s, got it repaired, greased, packing put in new breaker point put on, $6.35; but still don’t work right. Mrs. Kate Geodelle, died there this afternoon. It rained nearly all afternoon

Thursday, Sept. 22, 1932

Papa went to Waterloo this morn, & got the whippet repaired, brakes fixed, car greased & oil changed for $12.94. Mrs. Rennecker was here awhile this morn. A man around selling fish 20¢ lb. Mr. Fisher the butcher from Waterloo was here & looked at our cow, & hogs. Walter Gregson was here & bought stock roosters @ 10½¢ lb. 18 lb. This evening we drove out to George Boll’s & looked at his cow, then went & stopped in at Roy Staunfbiel & then to Uncle Fred’s awhile. There is Republican Meeting in Kammler’s Hall tonite, Henry went, sandwiches & soda free.
