Hy. Armstutz brought sack feed for pigs this morn. Pierre Laut was here selling chances for a quilt, pillow slip & scarf, to be raffled on there church pinic [sic] on Aug. 8. Cloudy & cool; some are threshing Joe Watchel is out at Frank Birkners, going to finish there. Wm. Myerscough of New Athens died will be buried Mon. Morning. papa’s first coummioun [sic – communion] partner, they used to live near Hecker. Keims have a free dance at Floraville tonite, musci [sic] by the girls. The Country Club has its annual carnvial [sic], beginning Fri. nite ending Sun. nite, Pappy Cheshire KMOX radio stars are to intertain [sic] for an hr. tonite & tomorrow; free for all & all for fun. Bert [Bertille] went along to Floraville to a dance with Geo. Wagner’s, large crowd. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came, from here went out to Henry’s.

Went to Red Bud; Fr. Dubren of Waterloo said mass, & so many confessions he had this morn. We stopped at Dashner’s funeral parlor to see Fr. Stern, laid out in purple vestments hat & shoes, opened all the way copper colored steel casket; looked good. Leo & Rose & we went out to Henry’s had dinner & lunch; celebrated Henry’s birthday; pap left at 2 o clock, had to be at Red Bud, brought Fr. Stern to church at 3 o’clock, 8 men on guard all nite along, pap turns was from 3 to 5. Bert [Bertille] came home with Leo & Rose, he stopped & milked yet. then went home came back again also Uncle Fred A. Mary, Bert went along all in Leo’s car, went to Red Bud to church, by Fr. Stern for ½ or then went out to cemetery to see were he would be buried, that makes 4 priests now buried there; also looked at Omer’s grave; has no tombstone yet; Seen the carnival west of town, didn’t go in, stopped at Log Cabin on way home free dance musci [sic] by Schmidts Orch; large crowd there. Wil – Leo Cortner was in a fight last nite at Floraville with Muskoffs was badly [? – unclear] hurt, they say.

Cleaned house, & painting. Baked bread etc. Uncle Fred came took onions out; then went to Frank Birkner’s threshing, Aunt Mary was helping there. Clara Wagner & kids came & got our yeast; they brought a glass cooked cheese yesterday, sure is good. Papa was helping Vic Eichenseer fixed the pump out at Henry’s took nearly all day well pump was just about done; put everything new on it. R. Schmidt tinner of Waterloo is in Red Bud hospital with pneoumina [sic]. Miss Mathilda Schilling bought new chev. coupe. The carnival at the Country Club started this evening, stunts diving etc, band concert, dance.
Friday, Aug. 17, 1934
Baked bread & coffee cake. Henry & family came up he plowed. Rob. stayed up, had lunch, supper. Leona came back this eve. & brought the kids up, they stayed here with pap; we went along with them to the carnival at the Country Club, sure beautiful, free dance, musci [sic] by Dixie Blue Boys of Belleville. Mr. Ivo Rapp & Eunice Blackburn, were married at the priest’s house here this evening 5:30. Clem Parker & Ivonne Rapp, the attendants. Oh Boy! wedding on Fri. Al. Rittmeyer sales agent for brusches [sic] was here, left us a sample brush.
Saturday, Sept. 3, 1932
Papa got crushing done. Mrs. Osie Neff is pretty bad sick the way they say. We had spring chicken dinner. This evening the Waterloo & Millstadt Homecoming, begin; with a dance, & band concert, & carnivals. It is cloudy & gloomy this morn. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Henry & family where all up this evening, eating cake, watermellons [sic] & beer, celebrating Rosalia’s birthday. 21 yrs. old.
