Baked cake, cleaned basement; Chicago Mail Order came today. Mrs. Harry Crook of Waterloo has a baby boy, now three, Mr. Crook passed away several weeks ago. Mr. & Mrs. Authur [sic] Bestmann had there baby girl christened last Sun. by Kochkeim, Helen Olivia, Emil Bestman & Oliv Geodelle sponsors. Bertie took Mrs. Renneckers patterns home.

A beautiful rainbow in the west this morning, thunder, looks awful like rain. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came had dinner here. Mr. Wm. & Aug. Hempe came to paid notes of. Buehler’s threshed again this afternoon. Papa went to Hecker, went up to see Bill Gregson, looked at his horses, there are for sale. Went down to Chas. Helfrich, then drove out to Henry’s awhile. Mailed a letter to Chicago Mail Order for each pr. sleeves [?].

We all went out butchering at Henry’s, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Emil helped, a pretty big one he killed, to sell tomorrow again. Bertille went to town, got a money order to Chicago Mail Order for shoes for Aunt Mary. Blackburn have a different car, chev. coach, Storall’s a Deluxe Delivery. Elmer Kammler has Harry’s, he got a second hand Chev. Clem Parker has Geo Kuhns ford coupe; & several others got others.

St. Valentine’s Day, & turning cold again, rain & sleet. We got a bottle of bluing today by mail from so Co. got the Chicago Mail Order catalog. There was a fellow around & brought a bottle of medicine good for everything. Rosalia took a dose after supper. Henry Armstutz was here this morn. There was a guy around delivering Freedman Bros. papers sale. Red Bud & Waterloo are giving euchres this evening, but it is an awful bad nite, so we didn’t go. Ironed & quilt today. Mrs. Schenider called up & wanted setting eggs, but we haven’t any right now. The hard road is awful slick, there was a car turned over in front of Ed Parker’s, & Vic Braun & Paul Neff turned over in Smithon [sic] at Siebert store, they where coming home from St. Louis. Ralph Rausch turned over with his lic. [ed. note: unclear] Willie Heyl’s boy is being buried this afternoon at Waterloo.

Bertille mailed a letter to Chicago Mail Order for shoes & things for Rosalia. Mr. Chas. Jung from Red Bud was here & wanted to buy eggs, but we sold ours yesterday. Mr. Joe Hilpert & a friend was here this afternoon.

It is awful cold. We worked on our quilt all day. Papa got a letter from Archie Weihl, it was the contract for the road for Ettlings, they wouldn’t close the gates no more on the old road, so that one will be shut after the other one is finished, supposed to to Apr. 1. Bertille sent to Chicago Mail Order today for a pr. shoes $1.95. The paper says 12 above for tonight.

Rosalia & Bertille went out to Henry’s, to help cook apple butter, 15 gals. Henry is sick, bad cold. We where out there for dinner, lunch. Mrs. Geodelle was also there. Papa was at Red Bud at a Stock sale, 85 cattle, they had 2 sale auctioners.[sic] We got the order from Chicago Mail Order. Bertille shoes, & paps cap. Today is Kenneth Kemp’s birthday, the bunch was talking about going there.

Today the Farm Bureau & anybody wishing to go over to see the Dairy Show at the Arena in St. Louis went there, they left Waterloo 8 o clock. It rained nearly all day. I sent an order to Chicago Mail & Co. for shoes.

Uncle Fred/Aunt Mary were here a little while this morning & from here they went to Christ Jensens’ sale 4 miles north west of Waterloo & then back again to Mrs. Threfall’s, she is selling household goods, brooder house, farm implements. Christ Buehler’s are figuring coming on that place. We got our Chicago Mail Order catalog today. Adam Eckert’s baby is awful bad sick, it has it in his throat. Tonight is Masquerade Ball at Smithton.
