Nice day. Henry & family came yesterday afternoon boys stayed here & Bert [Bertille] went along to Belleville, got new dress & things. Geo. Walzbacher’s only child girl Mary Elizabeth 4 yrs. old died at St. Marys Hospital brief illness says in paper. Mr. Joe Rieckert celebrated his 98th birthday on July 9. still hole & hearty, still pratices [sic] law yet. Walter Nobbe & Al Hoffmann were here, trying to trade cars again, now he offers $150. for chev. but we won’t trade yet with him, wait longer. Harry Wittenauer came going to thresh oats here by tomorrow.

Henry & papa went out horse trading today, Knabs & Belleville & Okawville; didn’t buy so far. The rest of the family stayed here, had dinner & lunch. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were also up this afternoon. Laurence Allard’s oldest son 13 yrs drowned in a pond while boat riding, was buried this morn, at Prairie Du Roch.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Henry & Leona were up here, papered the dinning [sic] room; had dinner & supper. Leona went home did the chores, & brought the boy’s along up; stayed awhile in the evening. Mr. Janson of Waterloo, sales agent for Nobbe was here this afternoon, looked at the binder. Leona went over to see Mrs. Staufenbiel brought her some material to make a spring coat for her; 4 yds. goods, & linings; pattern etc. Mr. & Mrs. Emil Mehrmanns baby girl Ethyl, was taken to the hospital at Belleville last Sat, & yesterday it died, buried this afternoon, & private funeral. No one could see it, had menertitis [sic – meningitis]; down spine in back; say it is a very catching disease; house has to be fumigated; had it in its throat also.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for chick dinner; a man here bought 4 doz. eggs @ 12¢; it rained all afternoon in showers, no ball game, the married men where to play Blue Caps. Jonny Whiteside’s little 5 yrs. old girl died, got operated on appendix, & died, the funeral will be tomorrow afternoon, & also Joe Huber, the auctioneer died & be buried tomorrow. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & Rosalia & Berti rode along down to John Whiteside, but they didn’t have the girl at home, on account of roads, she is at Kochs undertaking parlor, so we went there to see it, looks pretty, dressed in white, her name is Dorthy, a 5 yrs. old; there where few people came in & out, while we was there, about hr. Some people wanted egg.
