Monday, Dec. 23, 1935

We washed, ironed. Santa brought the Christmas tree, & decorated it. Papa went to town mailed the Christmas cards. Mr. Burdorf & son butcher of Red Bud was here & bought our Jersey Heifer $40.00, papa also sent him out to Henry’s, but he didn’t sell to him. We got card from Josie, saying she will be out on the 26th in the morning. Wm. Ganley came on business; this afternoon.

Monday, Dec. 24, 1934

Baked bread, put up the tree. We went to Waterloo this afternoon. Henry & family came this evening, Santa brought lot of presents; but he didn’t appear in person, he was at Wagner’s; Rosalia got prayer book, Berti bedroom slippers, pap also; from Henry & Leona.

Sunday, Dec. 16, 1934

Went to mass at Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed awhile. Mr. Henry Meng came last night & paid his hogs 381 lbs. at $6.30, brought the hook this morning. We went out to Uncle Fred’s, had supper; got a cedar tree for Christmas. Red Bud Sewing Circle is out soliciting for pillow slips or cash for a euchre to be held after Christmas. Some men of Hecker Holy Name Society, are going around for collection’s to build a double brick garage for Fr. Aydts car, he keeps it by Eichenseer’s.

Monday, Jan. 8, 1934

We washed. Mr. Hill came for news. Mr. & Mrs. John Myerscough, & Peter came up to Hecker, thought the funeral was today but it isn’t till tomorrow; so they came here, & had dinner with us. Mr. Wil Harbaugh, mineral feed man, stop & gave us a call; we took our Christmas tree down. They took Mrs. Philip Braun to Oakville, [Okwaville] to a hospital; she has rehumatism [sic] so awful bad, Rita went along yesterday.

Monday, Dec. 25, 1933

Went to 5 oclock mass; went out to Henry’s for mutton dinner, played cards. Geodells & Birkners were also there. Santa brought the boys all kind of things. Mamie & Clarence came down, then we went up to see her tree, & then went down to the Evangical [sic] Church, to the program, it was nice, wasn’t near the crowd there like last year. It started in snowing about 6’o clock this evening. Oh Boy & did it snow, everything white, drifts, Oh! a real Christmas Day.

Monday, Dec. 18, 1933

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came helped butcher 195 lb. hog; had lunch, dinner, finished butchering at 2 o clock; scrubbed the basement. Went out & got a tree, then went to Aunt Marys played pinochle, awhile. Fr. Aydt, has a big tree, light, outside.

Sunday, Dec. 25, 1932

Henry went along to Red Bud church, Leona stayed here with the kids & got breakfast ready. We went out there for dinner chicken stuffed; played cards in the afternoon. It is so nice warm today. Clarence Wagner came down this evening. Rosalia & Bertille went up to Eichenseer’s, Mamie showed us her Christmas tree, with electric lights on, then we went down to the program in the Evangical [sic] Church, it was right nice, they had songs, diagloues [sic – dialogues], speeches, the church was packed, some had to stand in the back.

Thursday, Dec. 22, 1932

Rosalia & Bertille went out to Henry’s got a tree, & fixed it up this morn. Papa went to Hecker this afternoon & bought peanuts, candy & oranges, & paid the Whip. Ins. $5.80. We popped corn & strung it for the tree. Bertille went & mailed a few cards at the post office this evening, & brought some along back, from Josie Keller for us & Uncle Fred, & Mrs. Creses Freund from St. Louis, she is working at 13 Danford Il [? – unclear]. There is service at the Hecker church we didn’t go. They put the tree-up & decorated it at the Evangical [sic] Church, the have electric lights & also at the school house, the play is tomorrow night.

Sunday, Dec. 20, 1931

We went to Red Bud Church, went out to Uncle Fred’s for supper, got a tree in there woods. Roy Stauenfbiel & Osie Neff, Edwin Watchel came this evening a little business about his road. Dance at Kammler’s, the egg man paid 26 today.

Monday, Dec. 22, 1930

We all went out to Henry’s butchering today.  When we came home we started washing.  We brought our old talking machine along up & played a few pieces on it.  Henry butchered 2 hogs.  Emil also helped.  Leona & Bertille scrubbed the kitchen floor yet, after we were through butchering, we were done about 11:30.  We got a little Christmas tree and took it along home.
