Sunday, Oct. 30, 1938

Went to mass. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stayed awhile. We went driving around this afternoon. Went to Walter Matzenbachers & Ruth Hoffmann’s wedding dance at Brezzy [Breezy] Hill tonite. Emil Geodelle & girlfriend Mabel Crook were attendants, bride wore white lace dress & maid pink, & such a large crowd. Schumacher’s Och. [Orchestra] 3 pc. [piece].

Saturday, Oct. 22, 1938

Pap got crushing done. We went to Belleville this afternoon to church. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] were also in. Much colder tonite, radio says frost. Had chicken pie for dinner today. Radio is fine tonite very good. Ralph Etting & Marlene Boll came this eve. Etting on business.

Saturday, Sept. 17, 1938

Nice day. Uncle Fred brought wagon & horses home pap took him home with car. We went to Waterloo this afternoon to church; & other business. Hubbard from Broad Hallow Grange was here looking for shoats. Rain tonite & cold wind from north, & thunder & lightining [sic].

Sunday, Aug. 14, 1938

Went to mass. Went to Orlets for dinner & supper. Brand’s & Bill were all there, took pictures, played horsehoes [sic – horseshoes]. The Evangical [sic] have pinic [sic] today, went awhile this eve; quilt was won by Dorthy Miller; had no dance. Floraville band played. Totschs had dance in Paderborn. Girls played; large crowd.

Wednesday, July 27, 1938

Henry & Rob. came got tractor, going to cut for Emil Ganley. Emil Brand helped went out with the Whip. got out about 10 bus. this afternoon. Bert [Bertille] went to church funeral of Nic Cortner 61 yrs. Fr. had very nice sermon; church was crowded, people had to stand in back; Pallbearers were Geo. Grossheim, Bill Karban, Ben Neff, Athur [sic – Arthur] Barthel, Wm. Probst, John Lippert. Garedener in charge of funeral. Its raining a little this eve. Bert [Bertille] took eggs up 17 [cents]. U [Uncle] Fred, Bert [Bertille] & Rob. all got cards to attend Smithton Home Coming next Sat. parade 6:15.

Went to Paderborn mass then to Leo’s for dinner & supper. Harry Wittenauer came, going to thresh here tomorrow.

Wednesday, May 11, 1938

Bert [Bertille] went to Red Bud mass & brought Leona home & took her home. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary staying there all day. Pap cleaned chicken house & hauling lumber home this afternoon, from Schillings. Ed Brand & wife came from Alba. [Alabama] are visiting here with a new hudson car, swell big car. Leo & Bert [Bertille], went to hospital, Leo stayed all nite; Bert [Bertille] came home with Uncle Fred. Mr. Shields was here this evening. We planted sweet potatoes & tomato.

Wednesday, April 13, 1938

Washed, ironed; cut lawn, etc. Pap went up got hair cut. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up, cleaning garden, she went to church, also went down to Red Bud. We went to church at Waterloo. Mrs. Wm. Ganley is pretty ill, since last nite. We set 19 hens to nite, 264 eggs. Bert [Bertille] washed Chev. Sure hot today. Lester Brown is driving a bread wagon now, new truck, 75 miles trip, delivered it to stores, down toward to Chester etc; has no work at Belleville no more. Geo Wagner hasn’t worked for nearly 2 mons. now. Bruns gets 2 1/2 [cents] loaf; sells about 400 loaves a day.

Tuesday, Feb. 22, 1938

Holiday. Went to Leo’s, Pap put there meat away, Bert [Bertille] went along to church with them, to wedding mass. Aloys Roth & Gertie Cortner; best was Hy. Roth & Viola Cortner. Gertie was dressed all white satin & lace set in, veil long. L. Kaiser flower girl, in white carring [sic] basket flowers; Viola with a red dress, silver slippers; had Ford garage men’s Dealers car. We had dinner by Leo’s. Chris Buehler got a hide here that Henry brought up yesterday, he butchered beef yesterday. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came took Bert [Bertille] along to Wedding dance at Daab’s, large crowd & lot presents received. Jac Schoeneborn, Ron Schilling, Laf. Geodelle furnished music, we also stopped in Smithton at Orlets. Mrs. is sitting up, but is weak.

Went to church. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stayed awhile after church. Steve Stiffler came on business. This afternoon Mamie & Clarence, were here, had supper here, we played pinochle all afternoon. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] this eve. Harold [last name unclear] came for news for H. M. Hill who has a cold.
