Raining all day; Pap went to Smithton this morn; Henry came up, he wanted pap to go along to see Ed. Heap at Smithton, he met him up there then. They also went to Corner’s by Paderborn. Pap went to Red Bud this afternoon took sample of clover seed, he bump it for 8 1/2 [cents] lb. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] 1st yr. wedding anniversary today, didn’t get there, roads muddy.

Cloudy, raining tonite. Washed, scrubbed basement, etc. Pap went to Hecker got inner tube for Chev. tire. A guy here yesterday eve. wanting clover seed didn’t sell none yet. Rennecker’s & Klotz girls & Emil, came, we played 1 game pinochle, then Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came, then we played 6 hand then Alois Roth & Gertie Cortner came yet, so then pap, Emil, Steve & Alois played solo, rest played pinochle, Gertie took my wreath along what Bert [Bertille] had, when Rose [Rosalia] got married. Viola wanted to borrow it, Alois & Gertie getting married next mo.

New Years Day & it is beautiful, sun shining nice, but roads are terrible. Voges of Lords Corner came out yesterday with wagon & 4 horses, don’t see that very often anymore. Most people walked out, to hard road. We went to Red Bud mass, received 1938 calandar [sic] & Sunday Visitor from Fr. Spors, was home all day. Probst & Kreheres brought our share of clover seed, 2 bus. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came down, & we went along with them out to Uncle Freds.

Raining all day; papered flower pots, baked cookies. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up this afternoon; got his car fixed. Ben Schilling brought clover seed 500 lbs.

Pap is sewing clover seed. Bert baked cake. Its cold this morn. froze ice last nite again. Joe Schilling is appointed solictior [sic] for gathering feed grain through Farm Bureau for the flood sufferers at along the Wabash & Ohio Rivers. Leo came with the team & got his disk, that he bought at Todds sale. Eichenseer pays only 19¢ for eggs. Mertz 20¢. Mr. Chas Geodelle died this afternoon. There were 2 funerals at Red Bud this morn. Wagner & Kaffai.

Bert washed, ironed, patched, colder again. Pap harrowed ground to sew clover seed. Leona brought Billy [Willis] up, to stay all day she helped sewing oats, drove the tractor Henry sewed & Rob. harrowed. Henry & Rob. came after Billy this eve; he was getting awful home sick. Eggs 20¢.

Went out to Henry’s butchering, had lunch & dinner. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary helped to, was a pretty big one. Eggs are only 29¢. Chas. Helfrich came got slip paper for that he got clover seed here. We got weighed, Rose 152, Leona 125, U. Fred 160, Berti 114 & Billy [Willis] 40. Mrs. Hy. Burdorgf butchers wife of Red Bud was buried last Fri. afternoon.

Just 3 yrs. today of Aunt Lizzie death. We washed, ironed. Herb. Probst & C. Kreher are hulling clover seed here today, got 12 sacks in all. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here, Bert went along to Waterloo with Uncle, took ride in the new car. Wheat just $1. Geo. Geodelle & Eichelmann were here, trying to get signers to buy a fire engine to protect the surrounding of Waterloo, like for Henry and there; we didn’t sign yet. They each will give $10. E. Hartmann give $50; cause Waterloo won’t go out of town with them.

St. Patricks Day. We went out to Henry butchering; 1 hog. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came a little while there, he went up & got rocks from the woods. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, went to Reheis wake awhile. Henry & family came, boys stayed here, & Bert & Rose went along to Waterloo to the show $80 was won by Parson’s a guy working on the sewer there, the show was nice “Yellow Dust,” & the hall was filled. Wm. Doyle got 1 bu. clover seed $4.80 – @8.

We all went to Henry’s; had dinner, papa sewed clover seed, & went to see Uncle Adam about 1 hr; we washed. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this afternoon, papa helped him stretch his wire fence; then he went home & got his plow, then we planted potatoes, he helped us; they had supper here. Mr. George Reheis 79 yrs. old died at 12:45 this afternoon, had been ailing for quiet [sic] awhile. Sure getting colder, wind, terrible.
