Leona was up all day, we stretched curtains. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary & Bill [Klein] came, went to euchre at Red Bud, given by Holy Name Men; played cards till 10 o’clock & danced after, musci [sic] by Cowell & Schmidt, only had 1 – 2 – 3 prizes in euchre & 1 – 2 in pinochle & 1 – in 500, something new again, 11 points high in euchre by 4.

Sunday, Oct. 27, 1935

Raining all morning. Went to church, took Helfrichs along, he gave us ½ gal. molasses; & Boy it is good. Henry & family came all day, had dinner & supper. We went to a free dance at Oak Grove tonite, wasn’t much, Cowell’s Orch. played. Birkners didn’t get to town today, to much mud she said; & still a raining.

Saturday, Oct. 5, 1935

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here, him & papa went to Waterloo on business; got Bert shoes fixed; had dinner here. Bernice got ½ doz. eggs. & 24¢ doz. A lady here wanted to sell extracts, 3 bottles & bowl for $1. There is a prize dance at Oak Grove to nite. Adm. 10¢. Cowell Orch. playing.
