Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came down; worked in barn. Wetzler of Maeystown died of rabbit fever & his wife is also sick. Paul McDermott son of Luke McDermott was out hunting Tues. nite, with his brother & cousin Willie & Ed Crook; he got tired stopped & built a fire & must of fell asleep clothing caught fired & was burned so badly & died. Elmer Matzenbacher & Emil Geodell found him called for doctor & took him to hospital.

Went to mass. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped awhile. Orlets came & Bill [Klein] this afternoon, & we took a drive in V8 to Fort Chartres & Renault, Waterloo home; had nice drive & hot. all had supper here. John Schaefer’s new home, that is going up in Waterloo was boombed [sic] by chimney $200 damage had just gotten roof on same day. Crook boys had accident at Leohr Station but reported getting along well, were taken to hospital.

Went to Red Bud mass. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped awhile. Conner of Paderborn was here wants an old horse. Miss Reickert of Waterloo came, Bert [Bertille] went along showed her where Uncle Freds live; she bought the piece of furniture with drawers from them for $2.50 they paid 10 [cents] at Crook’s sale. Bill [Klein] came this afternoon. There was an accident by John Krehers, cars from Lebanon turned around & Geo. Parker & Muskoff driving Clarence Wittenauers car, smashed into them people from other car were taken to Belleville in Dashners ambulance, Parker & Muskoff never got hurt, but car was pulled to Red Bud to Schrieber’s for repairs; claim was the Lebanon car fault.

Cut lawn etc. Went to Waterloo to Opac [? – unclear] Crooks sale, everything cheap; kitchen range $1.50. Mrs. Geodelle bought table for Leona $1; we got flour barrel for Rose [Rosalia]. Admiral Eichelmann Waterloo & Margaret Reneicker of near Red Bud were married Apr. 30. at E. St. Louis in St. Patricks parsonage. by Fr. Byre; at present making there home with grooms parents Rud Eichelmann. Clyde Pautler of Evansville have baby boy since Apr. 10 now have boy & girl; Robert [Brand] took central Ex. at Waterloo today. We got 15 1/2 [cents] for shipping coop chickens for 23. – 115 lbs @ 15 1/2 & for 1.4 lbs. @ 6 [cents] from McLain Bros. at St. Louis.

Went to mass. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stayed awhile. We went driving around this afternoon. Went to Walter Matzenbachers & Ruth Hoffmann’s wedding dance at Brezzy [Breezy] Hill tonite. Emil Geodelle & girlfriend Mabel Crook were attendants, bride wore white lace dress & maid pink, & such a large crowd. Schumacher’s Och. [Orchestra] 3 pc. [piece].

Pap took 11 bus. wheat to Waterloo, got 58 [cents]. brought 50 lbs. flour along. Bert [Bertille] baked cookies, cake & biscuits. Nice cool day. Man here wanted old underwear & things. Al Rausch is hauling coal for H.M. Hill this afternoon. Mr & Mrs. Alb. Crook of Poe Station have a baby boy born in Red Bud hospital last week. Mr & Mrs. Joe Schaefer left Wed. for honey moon to Nigera Falls & going to stop at Chicago visit relatives on way back then go housekeeping in there new home, just recently built by Mr. Schaefer near E. St. Louis, he works for New York Railroad Co; at E. St. Louis. Radio is good these nites, & on day time all you hear is war, don’t know yet whats going to be.

Beautiful day. Indian Summer they call it. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came went along with us this afternoon to Bozzay’s sale, they are going to St. Louis; start rooming house & her daughter Elvira Hoffmanns are going to move there Crooks farm. Went to Waterloo to church, & back home; stopped at Henry’s beef is all sold. Bert [Bertille] went along with A. [Aunt] Mary to rosary devotion tonite.

Made catsup, canned 3 qts. tomatoes. Went to Red Bud to Beckers Mill got check cashed, got new fan belt put in Chev. $1. went to Paul Crook looking for pigs, but were just delivered this morn. went through Tipton to Pluegers, but he moved last Sat; doesn’t live there any more, moved 10 miles away; went to Waterloo to church. Henry & boys were up this afternoon got wagon; last nite they were at Waterloo big W.L.S. Show at Pautlers Hall; I had forgotten all about it. Send bu. peaches small ones with Henry; pap picked 2 bu. little more. got in mushmellons & 1 watermellon [sic]. Hugo Probst is building new house on his lot, tore the old one away; also J. Kreher’s, Siedle is building that, contract job; but Probst just day labor. J. Reheis, Klein etc. We went over to Geo. Wagners awhile. Mary & Anita were out to. Clif Stahleber had a accident with his motorcycle at Pautlers, back wheel locked through [sic – threw] him quite a distance; hurt pretty bad.

Fried in 3 gals sausage, Pap hauled wood with wagon, one in basement & 1 small outside. Chick Brand & Val. Braun of Red Bud took the safe & alarm, etc. out of the bank today. The wedding of the Tipton parish on Thanksgiving Day were in the paper today, Mr. & Mrs. Joe Lengyl will make there home at 2823 A. Keokuk St. St. Louis Mo. & Mr & Mrs Gus Fahey at 3108 Abner Place. St. Louis. Mr. Elmer Winkler & Mamie Crook were married at Waterloo parsonage also. Thanksgiving Day wedding dance at Brezzy [sic] Hill. There were 7 wedding dances, in Monroe Co. on that day the paper says.

Went to Red Bud. Oliver Bell, Lee Howery & Ray Wittenauer turned there car over at Parrots corner last nite. Bell’s car, Ray was still unconisous [sic] at Red Bud hospital this morning yet. We took in the Floraville Homecoming this evening. Alois Havey came & got his radio, brought one out Sat. eve. left it tell this afternoon, couldn’t make no trade. Crook was here looked at drill, some other guys looked at the team, fellows from Mondonaville. Beautiful day.
