We washed, hung in the basement, raining out & cloudy weather, rain, nearly all night & thundering. Today Dr. Isselhardt, dentists start in Hecker again, Kammler’s upstairs, upend up again through the winter months; from 10-4. A man here selling apples $1.25 bu. & pears $1.00, we bought a peck to eat; awful good, but little; took our flower slips in, upstairs.

Papa got haircut. We went to Waterloo this afternoon; special sale at Mudds City Grocery, sugar for 48¢ etc; sign your name on a card to win 1 bu. basket groceries; to be raffled this evening; we have our names in. There was two funeral this afternoon in town, McDonald, to Catholic Cemetery; & Max Schlich, Evangaciol [sic] church & cemetery. Robert got 3 teeth pulled by Dr. Hotz, today. The state men are testing the hard road out west, now. Mr. Ed. Meng had a light stroke this morning, they called for Mr. Rennecker, & the doctor, he couldn’t talk Lena said, but he can open his mouth now.

We went to 6 o clock mass. Ed Meng was here yesterday morn, wanted to buy hog for market price; but papa won’t sell none like that yet, for that price, 335 100 lbs corn. Arthur Budde, Cecil Starr husband, was here trying to trade cars, he is working for Berdeker Garage at Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, she went to church. Henry & family came up too; they sold almost all of there beef at Waterloo today. We had popcorn. Bertille went up to the dentist & paid $11.50, he had costumers [sic] waiting this morn. Steve Rennecker brought our trees along from Red Bud, what Kirsch replaced. There was stock sale at Rutz’s barn today. Christ Buehler bought 7 hogs 125 to 150 lbs. for $35.00, Steve said, corns brought $45 & $50.00. Wincklein Auctioneer. George Boll went around town selling beef today, he sold hindquarters 15 front 13 soup meat 11¢.

It is cool this morn, after the rain yesterday. Bertille went to the dentist this morn, got one finished & this afternoon got 3 more filled, & he cleaned them too, for $11.50. Septore from E. St. Louis stopped again & took 6 doz. eggs along, 25¢ doz. The Evangelical Ladies Aid are having a euchre at Kammler’s Hall this eve. We all went, 25¢ don. [donation] We went up to Mamie’s first & she went along over. Papa & Rosalia got prizes, a dish, & lemon squeezer, Papa had 5 points & Rosalia 7, Bertille 4 & Mamie had 4. It wasn’t a very large crowd at all. 11 tables in euchre, & about 25 bluey players. It started in to rain after we got home. Papa got Int. from Hempe.

Hy. Armstutz was here. Ed Scheinder finished sowing wheat up here this morn. Papa went out & cleared a road in the woods to haul grovel out. Bertille went to the dentist. Mrs. Rennecker came over awhile. Those fellows that work on the telephone lines came here, on business. We sold 7 doz. eggs 25¢ to strangers from E. St. Louis, they stopped in. Today is Ralph Rausch birthday 21 yrs. old, Henry is surprising him tonite with a dance at Harry’s. Henry Rausch invited papa & us. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came then we all went up to the dance, nice crowds, all different kinds of musci [sic], Ill. Roamer, Karl Boll, Wm. Hy Birkner, beer & cake where served, one cake with 21 candles burning. Joe Hilpert & John Beshtolff of Belleville came here awhile before we went to the dance, they stay here by the priest, are carpeting out on the church place, they are putting new boards around the barn.

Bertille went up to the Dentist got another treatment put into kill the nerve. Mary Grossheim was also there. Papa went out to Walter Wittenauer & took a bus. of big potatoes along & traded for a bu. of sweet potatoes, big ones. He stopped in at Chris Buehler’s. Henry ordered 30 bus. seed wheat from Buehler. Rosalia went up town got the cream check & can, this time we had 10½ lbs. cream, test 3.9, butterfat 4 & price 180 lb. .72¢. Eichenseer didn’t charge for taking it along this this time. The other time he charged 25¢ to take it along & it was 8½ cream butterfat 3, test 41 price 19¢ lb. .57¢

Bertille went up to Dentist Isslehardt, & got her tooth fixed, relieved the pain, & come back next Wed. morning. Henry Birkner & his wife came too, he got a tooth pulled. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & we went to Belleville this afternoon, Rosalia got a coat $9.90, they stayed had a little supper, they bought a liver saussage [sic] at Braun’s, 15¢ lb. Mr. Adolph Rittmeyer was here & him & papa went out to Henry’s to look at a hog. Tonite is a telephone meeting here. H.M. Hill & Steve Rennecker where the only ones present the rest had all payed there dues, there is only 6 members.

A man around selling a patent to clean bottles & jars & things for 10¢, we took one; people here wanted to buy eggs & chickens we, had ours sold already. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up, he got his pump fixed by Eichenseer’s. Mr. Ed. Pabst was here brought 7 bus. potatoes. Ralph Ettling was here. The alarm ring went over the line stating that Dr. Isslehardt dentist was going to start in Hecker in Maniers place next Wednesday Oct. 5, office hours 9 to 5, opened on Wed. only. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up again this evening went to Mike Armstutz’s birthday. Mr. Stiehl is celebrating his birthday at Weber’s barn tonite.

We made a lb. of butter again this morn, but no chance selling it. Rosalia & Bertille went to Red Bud this afternoon to see Mr. Voss grocery store, wether [sic – whether] they buy cream, they buy it, so I guess will sell it there, 14¢ today, they are paying, take it anyday. While at Red Bud we went to see Mrs. Owen Fahey, she is pretty weak, but I guess will get along alright now the way the doctors’ say. She got operated last week on appendix, now a lump of matter formed, & they opened it up this afternoon while we were waiting. Marcella was there. Rosalia got a letter from Miss Bell asking us all to come & see her Sun. all day, so we stopped in there to & told her, we couldn’t come on Sun. Angela Eichenseer is getting along good at Belleville, she will come home by Mon. She got adenoid & tonsils & growth in mouth removed, she is in a room of 5 patients, it costs her $12 a week. Mrs. Griffin is so awful weak, she is on the same floor with Angela. I seen in the paper that we have a Dentist Schilling in town in Maniers place started last Wednesday.
