Papa got some whey. We all went to Waterloo this afternoon & paid up bills, dentist, got a barrel for 25¢. It is so cool these days, & nite. Hy. Kirsh was here to see about some Stark’s fruit trees. he is going to replace them for different ones. Seen in the paper free dance at Breezy Hill Aug. 24. Wed.

It rained this morning real nice. Rosalia is supposed to go to the dentist this morn. Henry & family came up here, then we went around the hard road to Waterloo. Bobby stayed here with papa. They are both finished now at the dentist Rosalia’s bill is $22.00 & Leona $4.00. Rosalia had 8 teeth filled. There was a furniture truck drove in to Karl Boll’s this morn, Smiths [? – unclear] & got some of his furniture. It rained this evening.

Papa took the mower out to Henry’s & got the frame wagon. Mr. Bershing was here & wanted to sell watermellons [sic], from 5¢ up to 25¢ real nice ones. Papa & Rosalia are putting up alfalfa hay this afternoon. In Ruma there was a cyclone yesterday evening, but we never heard if it did much damage. Lightening struck Tom Havey [? – unclear] mare, one what has a young colt, the Rendering Truck from Belleville got it this morning. Today is Chicken Supper & Pinic [sic] in Paderborn. We went out to Uncle Fred’s at watermellons [sic] then took them along to the pinic [sic] at Paderborn, they had a nice crowd. Mr. Jung our egg man from Red Bud bought 11 doz. eggs @ 15¢. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came here awhile, they were at Sensel’s bought a watermellon [sic] for 25¢, & they went to see Dentist Wagner at the Club House, tomorrow morn, they have to go to Belleville & get teeth fixed. It was sure hot today. Aunt Mary bought bread, flour, at the pinic [sic], 2 loaves for 5¢, & 5¢ loaf, she bought 4.

We all went to Waterloo this morning Rosalia & Leona went to the dentist. Bernice & Charles Wagner was here selling chances for 2 quilts at 10¢. for the pinic [sic] out the Aug. 21 at Manier’s park. A car ran over one of our chickens spring, so we butchered it for tomorrow dinner.

The weather looks awful bad this morn. Rosalia is supposed to go to the dentist, but didn’t on account it rained pretty much. Papa & Ed. Meng went to a sale John Fauss by St. Joe, papa bought a rake, & a few articles. This evening we went out to Uncle Fred’s & brought there victrola up here for them, & they came up to & got flour. It looks like rain, but it all passed over. Henry & the boy’s where up & got some whey.

Rosalia & Bertille went to Waterloo & Leona & kids, to the dentist. Leona is getting her’s fixed too now. Louis Rheischiner [?] & son Bill where here & looked at the horses. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came here this afternoon & then went down to Adam Eckerts’ threshing oats. They came back this evening again. Eggs are 10¢.

We canned beans, baked bread & coffee cake. It is awful hot these days. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up & Bertille went along to Red Bud with them to the dentist, but he wasn’t home, he is in Chicago at the hospital. Mrs. Munier is selling cabbage already here in town.

Papa went out to Henry’s to help him again today, there for dinner. It started to rain this morning, but after the sun came out nice. Osie Matzenbacher & Rosie Meuth are being married today. It rained again nearly all afternoon got colder towards night. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, then we all went to the Wedding dance at Oak Grove, this eve. had a good time. Elmer Matzenbacher & Mamie Mueth where best, but Emil Goedelle danced the waltz with Mamie, because Elmer couldn’t. Rosie was dressed with a pale blue or greenish like lace dress with blue velvet coat, short one. gold band around the head, & black pumps. Mamie had light blue crepe, with ruffles & black slippers, it was pretty. The Hickory Hollow Billies furnished the musci [sic]. [They] got married in the parsonage of Evangical [sic] church. He 24 & she 19. She got quite a few presents. Henry & Leona left the kids here this eve, then went down to Red Bud to the dentist, she had a bad toothache from the one he pulled out for her last time.

Henry & Leona went to Red Bud dentist, & left the kids here, they stayed all day & nite. Henry & Leona went to Waterloo this afternoon to church. A man here wanted to clean cisterns, Harry Wittenauer was here & brought us a picture of Fr. Grootens, his silver jubillee [sic] will be next Thursday. Floyd burned his hand here this afternoon. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up this evening, to stay at there place over nite again so he can take care of the boys tomorrow morning. From here they went to Christ Buehlers, the baby girl is sick, next thing to pneoumia [sic].
