So cold, water froze in bucket in kitchen last night. Rosalia made herself dress like Zita’s pattern. Bertille got the evening paper. It was in there that Mrs. Alva Eichenseer as bride & son Francis Jr. as ring bearer, & Lindow, were awarded 1st prize as wedding couple at Smithon [sic] Mask Ball last Sat. night; & Clarence Hepp & Miss Lillie Brown & Mrs. Roy Kunz were all among the prize winners.

We washed, ironed. George Boll & Ike Napier was here & looked at our fat hog, they bought it market price $4.45 or $4.50 going to get it tomorrow morning. We lost 2 little chicks so far, out of 407. We have 10 little pigs born today but 3 she laid on, so we only have 7 left so far. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this even, she cut Rosalia’s dress out, used Josie Gregson’s pattern. Rosalia & Bertille went along up to church with Aunt Mary to lent devotion, benediction & sermon.

We went to Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here awhile & went home, they where fishing last nite, caught one, they brought it along up & we put it in the pond. There where 5 boys & 1 girl made there private coumioun [sic – communion] at Red Bud. Cletus Buehler was one of the boys. This afternoon we went out through hills & hallows St. Joe, Burskville [sic – Burksville], Wartburg, Waterloo, stopped at Henry’s, but they weren’t at home, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where there too, they came back before we left. Bertille took Olivia Gregson’s pattern back, this evening. Fr. Grootens came over there too. He has a euchre in the hall tonite. Steve was here awhile.

We went to Red Bud to church. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here, they had dinner over at there house, & supper here & also Henry’s family where here for dinner & supper. The rabbit laid 4 eggs for the boys, they had lots of fun. There where 2 ladies here bought 4 doz. eggs @ 15¢ doz. This evening after we had supper, Aunt Mary, Rosalia & Bertille went up to Lester Gregson’s & got a dress pattern from here, for Bertille size 34 just fits fine. Aunt Mary went to church, & we played 4 handed pinochle, 2 games & then 1.5 handed when she came back, we had a light lunch, they went home in Hecker stayed all night.

There sure was a pretty rainbow in the west this morning. Wilma Birkner was here & brought a pattern. We had a nice shower rain this afternoon. I seen in the paper Red Finnerty died, he was the mail carrier at Burksville. It was a pretty lucky day last Sun, for the Hecker Baseball Teams, Athen’s & the fist [sic] team played 3 to 4 in favor or Hecker, the second team played Round Prarie [sic], 3 to 1 in favor of Hecker. There where 2 young chickens killed on the hard road today.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary was here for lunch, dinner, lunch, & supper. Aunt Mary started cutting Rosalia’s dress, so she can sew it yet today. Oliver Birkner was here & got the pattern again, we cut it off.

Today is washing, ironing patching day. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for dinner & supper. Henry & Leona went to Belleville & left the kids here, they & Bertille ate lunch at Aunt Mary’s this afternoon. Aunt Mary & Rosalia drove up to Wm. Birkner’s & got a dress pattern, which she got from Munier’s from St. Louis. We finished digging our potatoes along the road this evening.

We started fire in the furnace again today. Tonight is a meeting for the people on account of reopening the bank in the school hall. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here this afternoon. Rosalia is on the sick list with headaches, colds. This evening Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Henry & family came up. Henry & Uncle Fred went to the meeting. Leona brought a dress pattern along up. There was a funeral went past here today. The Smithton minister was in the lead. Dashner’s Ambulance & 9 cars following.
Monday, Feb. 9, 1931
Today is Thirteen Hour Adoration. Uncle Fred brought Aunt Mary up then he went home. Henry & family were up too. Aunt Mary was here for dinner then they sewed a dress for Rosalia, until it was her hour to go to church. Uncle Fred came up & got her again this eve. Rosalia & Bertille went to church to the closing. There were 3 priests, one was the Smithton priest. Bertille was at Mamie’s to get her dress pattern, & then she went to Ted Eichenseer’s & got it from her. Mrs. Deuker is on the sick list. Ethel called for Dr. Smith from Red Bud this evening. Papa took 12 doz. eggs to store this afternoon & got 13¢ some price.
