Went to Tipton to 75 Diamond Jubliee [sic] & pinic [sic] of parish; we had our dinner there; & tasted sure good wasn’t so much of a crowd; about 15 priests; sure had beautiful quilts. There is a school pinic [sic] at Waterloo, church pinic [sic] at Dupo & Columbia School pinic [sic]. Hecker has bingo party tonite. Leo & family came this eve; Pap went along with them pinic [sic].

Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came, Bert [Bertille] went along over to Mrs. Staufenbiel, she is going to have a dress made, tan. Mrs. Clem. Parker was also there. We received a letter from Sacred Heart Parish of Dupo, pinic [sic] on May 30. raffling 1st. 1939 Chev. 2nd. Electric Range 3rd. 110 pc. Dinner set. Sure is hot, all these last days.

Cleaned etc. Henry stopped in, got crushing done. Mrs. Geodelle is sick. Bert [Bertille] got mail, New Years Greeting from Helfrich girls, & card from Dupo, having the last raffle, for the church forbid it now, 1st prize quilt 2 $25 – 3 $20 – 4 – $10 – 5 – $5 to be raffled tonite but we got it to late, can’t send it back – $1. they wanted. Seen in Waterloo paper transfer of 105 acres from Emil Brand to Ed. Brand; never heard nothing about it; Received enveplope [sic] from Fr. Spors for Sunday collections 50 [cents] every Sun. it says.

Canned qt. tomatoes. Pap went to town order laying mash & hog feed brought it down this morn. Received letter from Dupo stating who won there prizes, all of St. Louis, except 1 at Dupo & Highland 2 at Belleville; anyway not us. The wedding pictures of Papenberg & Schmierbach & Armstutz’s are all in paper, all pretty good. John Braun was here; going around trying to get signers for leasing land for oil, quite a few around here have signed up. Pap took 19 bus. wheat to Waterloo got 93¢. top is 95¢. Bert stayed at Henry’s. Seen in paper that Emil Brand gave the Times Editor a paper from 35 yrs. ago; they published the news, some of the items from that paper.

Rain again last nite & morn; pap is fixing pig shed. Mr. & Mrs. Al. Cleveland stopped brought saw here, went picking cherries. Uncle Fred & A. Mary went to Belleville this morn. There is School pinic [sic] there, foundry men aren’t working. but it is posponed [sic] on account of the weather. Lucinda E. was here, selling chances for quilt to be raffled on 15, when they have open air lawn & card party at School grounds. We got card from Rev. Moorman of Dupo, stating who won, Mr. Harold Bunch, 1112 N. Ninth St. E. St. Louis Ill. check for $700.00 & Miss Joy Levin Dupo Ill, check for $300.00, pretty nice for the ones that received them.

Mothers Day. Went to Red Bud mass. We received a 2 books chances yesterday from Dupo, 1st prize $700.00 & 2nd. $300.00, pinic [sic] on May 31; we get them every year. Went out to A. [Aunt] Mary’s for dinner Josie Keller was out & this afternoon all went to Leo’s had supper there. Leo & Rose came down to milk station this morn, put in complain about getting there milk back all the time; they brought some sour milk along here to make cheese with. Uncle Fred & A. Mary came up this eve.; we went to the firemens dance at Manier’s Hall nice crowd, Skaer’s played; cleared $40. at the door. Adm. 25¢.

We washed ironed. Pap went to Waterloo, to Farm Bureau Meeting. Emil was here & Jac. Erle. Brand’s family came this evening. Mrs. Ed. Moffit won the Ford V.8 at Dupo. Sure hot 93 at 4:30 over the radio. Eggs 17¢ spring chix 19.

We clipped old hens wings. Aunt Mary shoes from Chicago Mail Or. & were to small had to send them back today. We had beef soup dinner. We ate 3 springs already, sure good, we got 111 old hens. There is Church pinic [sic] at Dupo today, were we got chances to win a V8 Ford; but I guess we won’t win anyway. Mr. Geo. Homringhausen gets buried this afternoon. Rose & Bert went to the funeral, down to Red Bud only to Dashner’s, he looks natural awful large funeral, Pall Bearers were, 4 fellows of Waterloo, J. Schmidt, L. Zimmer, Metzer, Friederich, Schuette & guy of Red Bud; Rev. Brink had the services at the undertaker parlor, & also at Round Prairie Church & Cemetery; he was 55 yrs. old, had a copper coffin & vault. This evening there was some fellows ran around our hours, one was H. Davis of Belleville, he should of brought a boy along, that he picked up on the road, & kid got away from him, Elmer Kammler came here, he had the kids shoes, what he dropped, in alalfa [sic] field.

Beautiful day, warm. We baked bread & cherry coffee cake, we picked about ½ gal. cherries; some are green yet, birds help themselves also; so we might get a few more yet. Eggs are 16¢ now. We sent a book ticket to Dupo, that we received from there, for the benefit of Sacred Heart Church there; on a Ford V.8 .25¢ or 5 chances for $1. Henry was up at Meng’s; with the mares. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up this afternoon, him & Rosalia took 18 bus. wheat to Waterloo got 87¢. Mrs. Renneker has a coffee demonstration at her place this afternoon, Mrs. A. Braun & Erna, Alma & Katie Klotz, Lena Meng, Clara Wagner, Mrs. Hugo Probst; lady doing the work, also Olive Laut is there. Clara Wagner came here & invited us to come to her place on today a week, June 2, she is going to have it, she won a dish, now by giving it at her place also, she gets a pyrex set. We planted the rest of sweet potatoe [sic] plants out, got the row & filled, 360 plants. Send for tennis shoes for Aunt Mary. Mr. Will Rhul & daughter was here, he looked at the rake, but said he couldn’t use it, also talked about the signing of Clover contracts this year.

We took our flowers in put them upstairs so far. Bert had to go to Renneckers [to] talk over telephone, ours didn’t work good but papa fixed it alright now. Angela Eichenseer invited us to her wedding dance on Oct. 16, everybody is welcome; to be at Kammler’s Hall. Clara Wagner got 1 doz. eggs 24¢. We got a card send a girl from Evansville got the Ford V-8 at the Dupo pinic [sic]. Went out to Henry’s, Leona 25 birthday, had cake & cookies, nobody else there; to bad weather & roads. Sparta Fair ends today & we didn’t get there.
