Rained last nite & morning. Went to Belleville with 2 hogs; left Whip. by Bill [Klein] to fix he took us home in his truck, & fixed our pump, had dinner here. We got sweet potatoes & turnip ready to take to Belleville tomorrow. Dorothy Pautler – Phil Pautler’s daughter of Evansville & Jerome Harbaugh of Boxtown are being married this morn, dance at Boxtown tonite. Ben Heyl was here looked at heifers. Oll. Englerth & Bill [Klein] came this eve. Bill & Bert [Bertille] & Al. Karban & girl friend went to St. Louis to see Veil Prophet parade, “Gay Nineties” it was beautiful.

Bert [Bertille] washed, ironed patched, cleaned front room. Windy & cloudy today. We got chicks for hogs from Strecks got $6.95 top $7.10, Mr. Englerth 83 is being buried this morn. at Smithton church & cemetery. Bill [Klein] is pall bearer all grand children to carry him. Leo & family came brought molasses, lard, eggs, to sell.

Rained a little last nite. Mr. Englerth of Smithton Bill’s grandpa died yesterday afternoon he was sick & paralize [sic] for a few years & is pretty old 83 yrs. Bill [Klein] called yesterday eve. Emil was over awhile this morn. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary & pap went to Wm. Gregson’s sale, on the Heyl farm; he is going to move back to Hecker again in Al. Monike’s place. they say. Hess & Ludwig Ford dealers of Waterloo are having the 1940 V8 on display at Brezzy Hill tomorrow nite, with free dance & cash attendance prize, dancing 8 to 12 – 8 pc. Siegels Orch. Bill [Klein] came this eve with 1940 V8. Deluxe Maron, beautiful car, with radio & heater; we went to Smithton to his grandpas.

Went to Waterloo this afternoon, sale of Mrs Wild Perry May Auct; not much of a crowd, things went cheap. A. [Aunt] Mary bought wash stand $1.40 & leniloum [sic] for kitchen $2.70. Frankie Englerth & Viola Einwich were married today, wedding dance at Brezzy Hill tonite. Bill [Klein] is invited to go. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came to get stand, we brought along home for them. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came to get Marita, had watermelon.

Rain in showers this morning. Went to funeral, while at cemetery it rained heavy. We had to go to there place for dinner, had all relatives there. Father Weskhamp made such nice sermon; church was full, couldn’t all get in. Pallbearers were newphews, 2 Englerth Boys & 2 Klien & John Mueth & Dominic Rheinhardt. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary had been here went to sale by Waterloo. Emil came got step ladder to fix garage door.

It looks awful cloudy like rain. Today is the big wedding of Milton Wagner 23 & Erma Englerth 18 of Smithon [sic]; married by Justice of Peace at 4’o clock; Hy. Armstutz was here. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came then went to Waterloo, to Burksville to Fred Fauss sale, Mrs. John Reheis brother; Uncle Fred got picture frames, that’s all. This evening they came back again, & we all went to Kammler’s Hall to Wagner Wedding dance, rather large crowd, & they received many presents. Harold Birschaer & 2 fellows all from Millstadt accordion, drums, saxphone [sic], furnished musci [sic]. The Wedding cake was placed in the middle of the floor, & they danced around it, the attendants were, her sister with pale blue dress & shoes, & bride wore white dress & shoes & head band; Harold Wagner brother, groomsmen; Sandwiches & cake were handed around; & the men had to march around in a circle & give some thing to help pay expense. The supper was served at the Englerth home, to near relatives; the dance lasted till 1’o clock. We gave a double boiler as a present, Aunt Mary a bed spread.

Papa hauled wood. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, help quilt, & Fred went out to the woods where papa was, they say it is a real circus down at Boll’s & Henkel’s. The hard road gang have about 50 horses & mules in Henkel’s field. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed for supper. Henry & family came this evening then they played cards, they where all here for lunch. Mr. A. C. Bollinger lawyer of Waterloo died yesterday 62 yrs. old, will be buried Thurs. afternoon in St. P.P. Catholic cemetery. It was in the paper that Englerth Sisters of Belleville Route 2, are engaged. Erma to Milton Wagner of Hecker, he says it isn’t so. Francis Eichenseer’s wife of Belleville is suing for divorce, & wants to keep her boy, they where married 1927, & seperated [sic] Feb. 13, 1933. His wife says Francis was going around with Anna King of E. St. Louis, & that he struck her several times; she stopped the bank from him not to get any deposited money out & sell his real estate property, & nothing till hers is settle first.
