Henry & Leona were up, he got the team & wagon. It rained this afternoon. Mr. Ralph Ettling was here paid Interest all of it. Quite a few people have cold these days; turning colder again tonite. Jac. Reheis’s 32 yr. old birthday.

Olivia Laut’s birthday. We cleaned little chick house. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up. Pap got a money order from Ettling $5.60 – 1933 is all paid now. We got the Watterloo Republican, a piece of it today. I guess on account of the corn & hog contract, it is in there, & also in the Times. Mrs. Hy. Wedel was granted a divorce, & settlement was made the amount $875.00. Mrs. Pretzilk got no divorce. Several from Renault are having there farms leased for oil drilling, Mary May is one. Wm. Reheis of Burksville is putting up a new store on his premises; Osterhage has the contract. Mr. & Mrs. Fred Fauss of Burksville bought a house in Waterloo from Fred Mueller, one of Ida Sommer’s & will move in near future, will have sale tomorrow. Cyril Havey is recovering from an operation on appendix in the new St. Louis University Hospital, he took ill suddenly & was operated on next day; also Mrs. Arstice Whiel is recovering from an operation.

Papa & Rose went out on the farm cleaned, graniery [sic]. Awful nice day. It froze ice last nite again. Some of the Hecker firemen put up a tank for water at George Wagner’s yesterday afternoon. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came he helped papa staked the ground of for the shed, they had lunch & dinner here, Karl Boll came to tell pap, Ettling was going to come to see him next Sun. We went to Waterloo to Pautler’s Hall, to a birthday dance, musci [sic] by Moonlighters, but wasn’t much going on there, so then we drove down to Oak Grove to Pat May birthday dance, & a crowd there. Oh my & all feeling Happy.
Saturday, Nov. 25, 1933
Henry brought load corn, he was here for dinner, him & papa went to the school house signed the wheat contract today. Pabst brought wheat here; & then signed his contract to. Henry & family came this evening, kids stayed here with papa; & we went along with them to Foster Pond, for wedding anniversary dance, music by Moonlighter’s & a crowd; quite a few that we knowed. Ettling was here, $150.00.
Monday, Nov. 6, 1933
We washed, Mrs. Kurt Boll came here on business, Ms. Ettling is cashing in her insurance policy to pay Interest. There was some kind of court in Public School Hall this morning, for about 1 hr. Homeringhausen & Hill had the case, quite a few people here, from down south. Dorn & someone from Lord’s Corner where having it about dogs killing turkeys, two lawyers Freidrich & Jackson from Waterloo where both here, the case was postponed until next week. Osie Neff was here & got sow & beam scale, Henry butchered a heifer, going to sell it around tomorrow. Acker fruit tree agent was here. Ed. Neff fixed our Whip, Rosalia but [sic – put] the key in & broke it of, he took the piece out again, we had 3 flat tires on there this morn.

Henry brought load corn. Papa got crushing done, We all went to Waterloo. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary was there to, at Max Schliebe’s Sale bought box full buttons 15¢; things went cheap. We drove out to see Toenjes to see about some corn, he has for sales 40¢ bu. Ettling brought our 3 heifers up, while we were gone.

Wednesday, Oct. 25, 1933
It is awful cold, had ice last night; The Evangical [sic] League have Euchre, pinochle, bluey & dance in Kammlers Hall to nite. Buddy Ettling was here last night, wanted papa to help him bring the heifers up today. Papa went out to Henry’s, Ettling couldn’t bring them because they had to go St. Louis to a funeral, this afternoon. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & Rosalia & Tillie went to the euchre, Rose got pillow cases; Aunt Mary got plates glass. Rheinhardt furnished musci [sic] for the dance, also 2 Skaers boy’s; it was an awful large crowd, the tables where fill in euchre & pinochle, & they had to get more chairs to play bluey, just crowded & not many prices [sic – prizes]. Adm. 25¢.

We washed, papa is fixing corn crib. Ralph Ettling was here last Sat., & papa was there Sun, he bought 3 heifers from him for $36.00. Ettling & his family are going to move to St. Louis, in 3 weeks; going to give his horses to Paul Neff to work, cows to Stoval & hogs to Mo. Rosalia & Bertille went to Mamies, then we all went to the school hall to a dairy show & speaking given by St. Louis Dairy, had Ed Parkers barn pictured. The hallways just crowded, people from Red Bud, Smithon [sic] & all over. Mr. Taylor, & Dr. McCullen where speakers; inspector of milk of health department. Kenneth Kemps birthday, & a bunch went out to celebrate with dance & beer.

We where at church. Henry came to Red Bud to around Palls corner, he went to church to, then him & papa went to Prairie Du Rocher again by Laurent to look at his mare & colt again. Ed. Schilling & Forness was published second time, & Auther [sic – Arthur] Moehrs Red Bud & Isabella Kalmer Tiptown first time. Gregson’s stoped [sic] in as they went home from church & brought a t puzzle; we worked it out already; if it is right we don’t know. Ralph Etling came & paid balance on Int. $25.85 it is now paid for 1932. We ate lunch by Uncle Freds this afternoon. Tiptown & Heckers ball team played today in the new diamond here in town. now, Hecker won 5 to 6. We drove out to Henry’s to look at the mare & cold that he traded on his cow, they wasn’t at home, so we went back again, drove out to the cemetery, around the prairie home; Uncle Fred’s went to Hy. Birkner’s birthday. We went up to Kabureck’s dance this evening, oh! boy & a good time, lot of people, hall was crowded, Rheinhardt furnished musci [sic]. The road men worked at Schender’s today, leveing [leveling?] that all of along there the road looks so much different, the hills cut down nearly all level there.

Rosalia & Bertille went out to Uncle Freds remodeled dresses, had dinner & lunch. Bertille baked lemon pie there. We heard the Accidentals, Chas Hill & them played over the radio at noon hr; they had a good many tunes requested from all over, some from Waterloo, Sly Miller was one having his birthday today, they advertised the dance what he is giving at Brezzy [sic] Hill tonite. Mr. & Mrs. H. M. Hill & John Horn, from Hecker, & some from St. Louis, East St. Louis, Mo, different parts of Illinois, it was nice. Papa took dinner along & went out in the woods. Adolph Spalt’s had a pond digging frolic yesterday. Dr. Irwin died & will be buried Fri. morning. Mr. & Mrs. Wm. Grohmann christened there baby girl Lucille Mildred last Sunday. Mr. August Ettling’s mother died at Smithon [sic]. There is quite a few people that is on the sick list at present. It is in the paper that a $25,000 suit was brought against Mr. & Mrs. Julius Armbruster of Smithon [sic] by Dominick Klein, for slander, saying that Klein’s owend [sic] a couple farms, then go out begging from people, or state.
