We planted potatoes. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary made garden up here today. We went to Belleville got spring hats, etc. Aunt Mary went to lent service tonight. Mr. & Mrs. Killiam Marquadt have a baby girl born, now have 3 children. Charles & Bernice Wagner are still in with cold & fever, but are getting better. Mr. Wm. Fritsche while riding a bycicle [sic] last Sun. evening fell of [sic] & fractured his tumbh [sic], pretty bad. Papa & Rose went out to Henry’s got mule, harrowed the oats in.

Beautiful day. Papa went to Red Bud; we sewed lettuce & cabbage & tomato seed in the hot bed. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, went along with us to Brezzy Hill, free dance, nice crowd for being so many dances.

We washed, ironed, patched. Henry has a motor washing machine, got it from Montgomery Ward. Henry had dinner, lunches & supper here; he started a different field now.

We washed & ironed, patched. George Wagner & kids where here awhile. Strodt was here from Burksville & wanted to buy a house, but it was too much money for him. Jack Ganley bought $30.00 part interest this morn. he works at Phil Braun’s helping to build a shed; they had frolic yesterday putting it up, they called over the lines, everybody was welcome to help. It rained this afternoon. We heard there where 5 families from the city moving out to Lords Corner, all boys that where raised in Lords Corner, starting in farming. Nick Frisch from that corner is moving on Wm. Sheets place by New Athens. Papa sewed alfalfa seed this afternoon, with Meng’s sewer.

We washed today. Henry came up & plowed, & harrowed the potato patch, we planted 4 rows. He was here for dinner & lunch. Uncle Fred Aunt Mary came up & brought Henry’s potatoes along up for him. They were here for lunch too. Henry & family came up this evening. Henry went to the Broad Hollow & Hecker Local meeting.

Papa got crushing done this morning, & then he left for Waterloo, & then to Scheiders Sale. Tonight is a party at Stonall’s. Mrs. Ettling was by Henry’s yesterday evening & told them & us & we should let, Uncle Fred know, & also Emil. Perry Laut has the measles now. Papa bought 3 boards, at the sale today for 5¢. He said there was such a crowd there, & lot of people from around here. Frank Birkner is going to start in farming now. Today he bought harrows, & at McCarthy’s sale he bought 2 mules, frame wagon, drill.

Papa is plowing & harrowing the potatoe land this morning. Fr. Grootens was here. He wanted to use the truck to get some straw and our brooder. So him & Frank got it. He has 2000 little chicks. He also has a new DeSoto coupe. We planted 2 bu. potatoes this morning. Papa took the team back out to Henry’s again he is going to help him sow oats out there today. He was there for dinner. This afternoon Rosalia had to go out to get him. We have to turn our eggs twice a day now in the incubator. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this afternoon. She went to the sewing circle. Tonight is farmers meeting at the new school hall, but none of us went. Eggs are 18¢ today. There was a lady here today & wanted to sell 3 flowers in a basket for 25¢. I send her off. She said she was selling them to support 5 small children & her father. There was a man here wanted to take orders for strawberrie plants, & also a fellow from Waterloo & wanted to sell or advertising Skill Gas. They sure have a time at Blackburns School this year the way Mrs. Ettling told Papa.

Papa is sewing clover seed this morning. Henry was here for dinner today. This afternoon he went home with his tractor & Rosalia had to take his machine home for him. Papa harrowed the potatoe patch, & when he was finished, he went out & got Rosalia again. Jac. Reheis’ wife was also at Henry’s, she got 12 doz. eggs for hatching. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this evening, they brought our seed potatoes along up. Aunt Mary & Rosalia went to church. Mr. Tolin was buried this morning at Waterloo. He was playing cards till 11 o’clock at night, & at 12:30 they found him breathing heavy & shortly after he died.
