Washed, ironed etc. scrubbed brooder house, we planted out about 24 tomatoe [sic] & 30 cabbage plants also sweet potatoes & pickles; it is getting pretty dry. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary worked up here this afternoon; got well pump fixed made new screens on windows & doors. Edwin & Fritz Reheis got half of his stock hay this morn; 3 loads. Harry Wittenauer was here; pap went out to see Walter Wittenauer; Clarence came this morn. with the ball ground rent $25. – the $10 from last yr. & $15 for this year.

Went to Leo’s, washed, cleaned room, worked garden. Pap went to Ververs to get 22 doz. white rock setting eggs for 24 [cents] doz. blood listed; he then cleaned chicken house & set 19 hens. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] brought Bert [Bertille] home this eve; took truck along back.

Spring begins; & beautiful hot day. 75 at 7 o’clock. Bert [Bertille] washed, ironed; pap hauled load wood home, got potatoe ground ready & we planted a small patch by straw stack, planted out onions in garden; this eve. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary & Bert [Bertille] went to Belleville this afternoon, got shoes etc. Berniece came over, said Mehrmanns couldn’t use no more eggs now. Still 15 [cents] here. Josie Keller & landlord & family stopped in this afternoon, pap was here, was also at A. [Aunt] Mary they weren’t at home, they took 13 doz. eggs, along with them.
Monday, Sept. 20, 1937
Washed ironed, patched, etc. dug sweet potatoes 4 bus. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were here for dinner, he fixed chimney all day. Canned 1 pt. tomatoes. Beautiful day, but it is awful dry no rain for quite awhile. Harry Wittenauer stopped in, papa wanted to see him about cutting hay.
