Rosalia & Bertille went out to Henry’s to help cook apple butter, she got 10 gallons. Mrs. Geodelle was also out, we cook a kettle full of soap, and washed this afternoon & scrubbed the rooms & porches for Leona. We had lunch & dinner out there. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here. We found 19 eggs. Egges are .20¢ a doz. I seen in the paper that $500,000 as fire sweeps Quality & Oakland Foundries at Belleville yesterday. Papa is discing the chicken yards. Henry Meng was over watching Papa disc a little while.

It is awful icy. Fr. Goottens and Frank walked through our wheat field going East. Leroy Kuhns came here to get some sand. He was going to drive in and got stuck in our lane. The Bruns brothers, Lester, Henry, Eugene, lifted him out. Papa, Rosalia, Bertille, went out to Henry’s this morning but when we got to the hills we turned around & went back, we couldn’t get through.
George Freund’s barn burned down, Sat. Jan. 4. Five loads of hay, 2 load of bundle oats & some wheat & machinery [were lost]. The fire was put out by some neighbors.
