Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary & pap went to see the O leary place. Bert [Bertille] washed; fried in bacon & sausage, we made garden planted out, onions frost proof plants cabbage 62; pears lettuce, spinach. Pap sewed clover seed. Wittenauer finished sewing oats here. Sure beautiful day 60 [degrees]. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were at Athens got there quilt, this eve came to Hecker, & she & Bert [Bertille] went quilting, Firemen got 2 quilts in again, both plain, peach & green.

Berti ironed. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up had dinner here; Joe Griffin was here talking radios, Uncle Freds, going to get one like ours now, getting tomorrow, from J. Griffin $21.- there old radio. Nun from Marrisa was here wanted to buy oats. The Farm Bureau has euchre in Red Bud tonite in the school hall there. Clara Wagner has a quilt in for the firemen’s, Rose helped this afternoon. Cecelia Pour & Harold Eichenseer have the mumps; now.
Monday, Feb. 25, 1935
Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had dinner here, him & papa went to Waterloo this morning on business; this afternoon Uncle went home, got wheat, took it to Red Bud; Eggs here are 18 & 20½¢. Rob. Laut took a chance on a quilt to be raffled at the Euchre on Mar. 5, Catholic. Mr. & Mrs. Walter Wittenauer have a baby girl Alice. Fire man euchre Sun.

We washed, ironed. Beautiful day. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, he helped papa with the shed, had lunch, & supper. They had lots company yesterday, Buehler’s family, Frank Birkner’s family, Uncle Adam & Emil. Mr. Hill was here, also Joe Johns, peddler, Frederick Fritsche, Maryanna, wanted setting eggs; we have none. Papa went to Hy. Armstutz got mixing box. The fire men pumped Uncle Fritz’s [aka Uncle Fred – ed.] cistern dry, put it in the tank. Papa went over awhile to help them, some mess.

Papa & Rose went out on the farm cleaned, graniery [sic]. Awful nice day. It froze ice last nite again. Some of the Hecker firemen put up a tank for water at George Wagner’s yesterday afternoon. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came he helped papa staked the ground of for the shed, they had lunch & dinner here, Karl Boll came to tell pap, Ettling was going to come to see him next Sun. We went to Waterloo to Pautler’s Hall, to a birthday dance, musci [sic] by Moonlighters, but wasn’t much going on there, so then we drove down to Oak Grove to Pat May birthday dance, & a crowd there. Oh my & all feeling Happy.
