Cloudy little shower this morn. Went to Belleville to dentist, church & shopping this afternoon; seen a man about 10 or 12 ft. hight walking the streets, adv. Rex Theathre [sic], & girl dancing on a Pontiac top; adv. pontiac cars. Fr. Stern passed away yesterday afternoon, Red Bud hospital; Leo & Rose came down, brought the horse back; Henry & family also came.

Pap went out to Henry’s helped saw logs in the woods, & haul them to Schilling’s; had dinner at Henry’s. Bert baked pie etc., we got lot of milk, about 1 gal. to a milking. Uncle Fred & A. Mary were up working this afternoon; & came back again this eve. Bert [Bertille] went along to Red Bud to Catholic euchre. Uncle got pr. house slippers, had 8 points & played paps card, he got dresser scarf. Bert had 7 got rug. A. Mary 3 points; quite a few prizes & nice crowd pillow slips attendance prize by Mrs. Ed. Vogt. Fr. Stern is very low, but he said they should have the euchre; he talks yet but is very weak; pap stop to see him last Mon; he knew him right away. A man here looked at cow; to high for him. Bert Thompson send him here.

Went to mass. Fr. Stern read it, but isn’t just so healthy yet. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & Leo & Rose were here for dinner & supper. Bishoff had Confirmation here this morn. & raining. Bert [Bertille] went along with Leo & Rose to Floraville to Bockers to a dance nice crowd, musci [sic] by Vogel Bros. Mr. Honnecker of Floraville was buried this afternoon, she died last week. Mrs. Probst from there also was buried last week. Herman Goessling have a baby born on Apr. 14.

Went to first mass. Fr. Stern is still not able to say mass. In Hecker & Waterloo children making there solemn Commioun [sic – Communion] today. Emme Eckardt came got the veil again, getting confirmed next Sun. here. Con. Myerscough stopped in. Lester Gregsons came, pap was elected to serve as judge on town election Apr. 20. he is going to take the job. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed awhile after church. Mary Havey & man of E. St. Louis were published for last time this morn. We went out to Henkels paid for the seed $12. then went to Henrys. Uncle Fred & A. Mary came there to, we all had supper there. Uncle & pap went in woods, & Rob. also, Floyd is sick, dizzy spell he gets, cold. Set 2 more duck eggs. The mail carrier brought the rest of there chixs the same day, 250 & all were dead in box; they [Henry] wrote a letter to the co. right away but so far didn’t receive no answer; Henry said, thought the chics might of been chloroform. Cyril Haudrich is having a birthday dance at Pautlers, Am. [admission] 25 & 15¢. Skaers musci [sic].

Raining all morn, & heavy, we went to Red Bud mass, hospital priest, Oberlinkels said mass, Fr. Stern is in hospital suffering with nervous breakdown. Rain & mud make it bad for Quathamaner’s funeral this afternoon; he was about 45 yrs; has been ailing for quiet awhile. The Paderborn children are to make there solemn Coumioun [sic – Communion] this morn; tomorrow afternoon get confirmed. We are invited out to Geo. Berniers for supper this eve. We went out had supper, played cards, Alois Roth, was also there Rheinhardt didn’t come, to muddy; 2 of Berniers girls making solemn coumnioun [sic] & getting confirmed; bad morn. rain. Bert gave Theresa a dress.

Went to services at 8 o clock Red Bud & again at 2 this afternoon; Pretty cold; was 18 last nite. Pap paid Fr. Stern pew rent, flood donation & bake sale donation tomorrow. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came. Bert went along to church with her. Fr. Ratteoman finished it of. Fr. Orlet was there also another priest.

We washed, cleaned basement, fried in meat etc. Bert got mailed Christmas cards from J. Keller, Fr. Stern, First National Bank at Waterloo. Berti got a punch for a 5 lb. box candy by Mertz paid .03. Name Dorthy. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped here, then went to the school children’s play in School Hall.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed awhile, took in $350 at Turkey supper, but the expenses isn’t off that is $200 clear she said. Fr. Stern gave budget collection envelopes around this morning, for every body to donate, hand them in before Jan; has that instead of pinic [sic] & house collection. Henry & family were up this afternoon for supper. Omer & Leo came this eve. we played 5 hand pinochle.

We were at Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed awhile. The girl that Fr. Stern raised was married to Johnson on Labor Day at Red Bud, last Thurs. noon she looked in the mirror & shot herself in the head, died 5 o clock; she was cashier in Packing House in St. Louis, were she will also be buried over there. Mrs. George Gregson who was taken to Red Bud hospital last week was operated on for appendix, & will be removed to her home tomorrow. Josie Kaiser is keeping house. We drove to New Athens, Lenzburg; Happy Hollows: to see Mr. Hamill, he wanted to buy binder or trade on a cow. Steve came here when we got home, told us Chas. Kern & son of Columbia was here looking at drill & binder. Seen some beautiful country by Lenzburg.
