Went to Leo’s. Pap helped Leo saw logs down, had dinner & supper. Bill [Klein] came & looked at Leo’s car, has coil burned out, going to order from Kettler bring along tomorrow. Ladies Aid have euchre in hall tonite. Annie Fahey of Red Bud died, will be buried tomorrow morn. from Red Bud there had 3 priests for mass. Fr. Havey, Aydt, Spors. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came up for the euchre, nice crowd they said. Klotz’s girls were lucky, one winning quilt & blanket.

Pap went to Hoef’s bought 7 pigs $40. weigh 55 to 34. Went to Red Bud. Schriebers put a new heater in, other one leaked. Bert [Bertille] went to Fr. Spors paid $12.00 pew rent. Went to Leos tonite, awhile, played cards. Marita’s colds pretty good.

Went to Red Bud to funeral of Mrs. Galagher 79 yrs. old. Fr. Havey read the mass & sermon, also by him & Fr. Spors, none of Crowes out from city; large funeral. Went to sale at Red Bud, neighbor to Buehler’s; in there shed.

Washed, cooked catsup & preserves. Fr. Spors stopped in on his way to Onley [sic – Olney] to a pinic [sic] left our chance books, he had Seiferts along Mr. brother a priest is stationed at Olney Ill. The hottest day this yr. had little rain. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up, he helped fix stands for pinic [sic]. Waterloo band plays on WTMV. at 8:05 tonite. Roy Pautler 27 died Mon. morn at St. Mary’s hospital in E. St. Louis, from head infection & sore leg that he had.

Rained a little. Cooking catsup etc. Pap hauling a load rock for drive way. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up, she helped clean dishes for the pinic [sic] on the 10. next week; he cut lawn here. Mr. Geo. Weinhoff of Waterloo was married to Weilbacher at Millsdadt [sic – Millstadt] Miss Elnora – bridesmaid & Milton Weilbacher best man. Wm. Weber & Mary Qurin of Smithton married at St. Therasa [sic – Theresa] at Belleville, priest house, attendanted [sic] by brother & sister. she was formerly at Ruma Convent to be a nun till yr. ago, going to live at Smithton were he runs service Station there. Leo & family got plow share. Received our books from Fr. Spors, there is 41 prizes for 10 [cents] – 3 – 25 [cents]. got 2 books, 1 is filled.

New Years Day & it is beautiful, sun shining nice, but roads are terrible. Voges of Lords Corner came out yesterday with wagon & 4 horses, don’t see that very often anymore. Most people walked out, to hard road. We went to Red Bud mass, received 1938 calandar [sic] & Sunday Visitor from Fr. Spors, was home all day. Probst & Kreheres brought our share of clover seed, 2 bus. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came down, & we went along with them out to Uncle Freds.

Cleaned etc. Henry stopped in, got crushing done. Mrs. Geodelle is sick. Bert [Bertille] got mail, New Years Greeting from Helfrich girls, & card from Dupo, having the last raffle, for the church forbid it now, 1st prize quilt 2 $25 – 3 $20 – 4 – $10 – 5 – $5 to be raffled tonite but we got it to late, can’t send it back – $1. they wanted. Seen in Waterloo paper transfer of 105 acres from Emil Brand to Ed. Brand; never heard nothing about it; Received enveplope [sic] from Fr. Spors for Sunday collections 50 [cents] every Sun. it says.

Went to Red Bud. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came down, had dinner here, we played cards. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped awhile; this morn. We went to Paderborn, closing of Mission church was crowded. Fr. Aydt, Spors priests present. Fr. Teonnies is very ill; Missionary was pretty nice & made good sermons.

Raining again all day; some weather. Pap went to see Fr. Spor’s at Red Bud paid $8. pew rent. Went to Hecker, got 50 lbs. flour. Mehrmann got 7 doz. eggs .28 [cents]. It sure is foggy, it’s so thick, can’t see very far at all, last nite same way.

Went to mass, new pastor Fr. Spors, about 45 pretty nice man. Leo & Rose came down for dinner brought truck back. This afternoon Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary & J. [Josie] Keller came, all had supper here, went fishing this afternoon had fish fry, sure good. Bert [Bertille] went along home with Leo & went to free dance at Totsch at Paderborn, Skaers playing; Boy was this town hot on firecrackers, & what a noise, 3 days. We had nice rain this afternoon.
