Leona brought Henry up; he had dinner, lunch, supper. Papa & Henry went over to Ed. Meng’s looked at horses. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & papa went down to Mrs. Gruber’s sale on Gregson farm, didn’t buy anything; large crowd, & fair prices. $120. for horses. Papa & Rosalia wen to Belleville this morning. Leona kids came this evening to get Henry. Clifford has a chev. now $25.00. Hugo Probst is repairing his house, the old folks moved down, & young folks up there because it is closer to his garage there.

Baked doughnuts. Dug bucket potatoes. Awful hot. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this evening, they were helping Papenberg’s thresh tomorrow at Walter Wittenauer’s I guess. Henry & family came, the men folks all went with him out to George Cortner’s to look at a horse. Hy. Gruber was buried this afternoon at Waterloo. Wagner’s Undertaker, 16 cars in all with Rev. Kochheim.

We washed, ironed. Awful hot again today. Buehler’s threshing this afternoon. Joe Schilling’s threshed oats today. Henry came & papa went along with him to Joe Herzog’s, to look at a team horses, that he has for sale; he is sick in bed, wants to move to town; sell out. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this evening, it rained, thunder, & lighten [sic- lightning], pretty much. Eggs are 11¢ again. Irvin Buehler is home again from the hospital Sun. evening; he still has clamps on his head in the back, the doctor has to open that now, & take the book out of there; he has lost so much blood, the doctor had said, if it would have been 15 mins longer, they couldn’t have saved him anymore. Hy. Gruber, who just moved out to Al Gregson’s place from Waterloo, died about 4:30 this evening, in a chair, his wife went to feed the chicks, when she came back to him, he was just stretching out, he was sick awhile back, but last Thurs. was in town, visiting Hill’s. Wagner Undertaker got the corpse.

Mr. Ziebold, retired miller was buried at Waterloo yesterday, awful large funeral, business places were all closed. Papa hauled posts, helped Henry this afternoon to cut some logs & haul. Cleveland helped too. Berti washed Chev. Seeley worked in garden. Our baby chicks didn’t come yet. Mr. Walter Lehr brought them this evening 209 chicks @ 7½. $15.50, all. The new Hospital in Chester which has been remodeled will now be called Riverview Hospital. Mr. Martin May has sold property to Charles & Anna Hasnedle – twp. 4-9-$1500.00. The primary election turned out with the winners Chas. Wehmeier. Dem. Co. Judge & Reb. Judge Scheinder; For Sup. of Schools; Zimmer had 26 votes & Wm. Weigand received 1 vote but wasn’t running; several others ran for Supt. Mr. & Mrs. Henry Gruber of Waterloo moved to the farm of Mrs. All. Gregson. Cyrus Hill & family moved to Waynesville Mo. where he has gained a position. Mrs. Steiger, Lena Birkners great grandma died this eve. about 6 o clock, will be buried Sun. afternoon 1 o clock at “Lords Corner;” she would of been 100 yrs. old in May, she was blind & couldn’t hear for a good while.
