Leona brought the teacher & pupils of Blackburn School up for the Christmas program at the Hecker School, Rosalia & Berti went to, it was real nice, Stana came too. We went to Belleville this afternoon. Eggs 26¢ today. Received a Christmas greeting from Josie Keller today. Papenberg boy’s got a red fox; hunting season.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, then he went back home again, got telephone. Meister was there to get hay at $5. load. Henry came up is disking this afternoon, had lunch. Mr. & Mrs. Alpho Parker have a little baby boy was christened Virgil Sun. Mr. Harry Stumpf found a black widow spider, one day last week, brought to to Hecker, & the teacher Miss Burgess explained it at school, to the children. There is a Republician Meeting at the Lower School tonight, to which everyone is cordially invited; will be at Hecker School Fri night.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had dinner here, then went home, Christ Buehler’s went out there this afternoon. Henry & family came, had supper. Leona, baby, Rose & Berti went up to see Mrs. Mertz. We went out to Cleveland’s awhile this evening. We heard Julius Rausch, school director of Hecker, resigned now, they will have to appoint one.

We finished digging our potatoes this morn, 6 rows. Bertille went up town this evening & got the mail. Frank Schwinde is having a birthday party in the school hall tonite. Mrs. Martin Fritsche got the job of cleaning the Hecker School for $3.90. Reagean’s had a bid in for $4.00 & Lauts $6.00.

Abra. Lincoln’s birthday, also Roy Stauenbiel, there is to be a dance there tonight. Rosalia is in bed all day, she has the measles the doctor said “he was here this evening & looked at her. He say’s she is over the worst because they are out now, but she has to stay in bed for 3 or 4 days yet. She had 103 ½ fever this eve. He say’s when you can see spots in the back of the throat, then it is measles. Papa went along with him to the house & got some cough medicine for her. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary was up this afternoon. Aunt Mary & Bertille went to the quilting, there were 4 there. Papa took 24 doz. eggs to the store and got 12¢ a doz. Tonight is Literary Meeting in the Public School House. Speakers are Dr. Bock. They also wanted A.C. Bollinger but he called out and said “on account of rain, he wasn’t coming.

Henry & family were here all day today. Henry finished plowing this evening. Emil was here this afternoon. We baked molasses cookies today. There was a man here this evening, he wanted to buy eggs, but we told him we didn’t have any. Eggs are .29¢ at the store. Rosalia & Bertille went up to Mamie’s & Angela & then we all went down to the public School House for a Literary Meeting. Speakers were: H. M. Hill, Wm. Wiegand, Greg. McCarthy. Mr. Wiegand spoke on prohibition and ruination of the country. Mr. Hill spoke of Art and Mr. McCarthy spoke of Nature. Mr. Hill also sang a song & played the violin with it, a war time song. Today is Annie Reheis Birthday.

Today is “Billy” Kammler’s birthday. He is 2 yrs. old. Gus Hempe and a man from St. Joe were here this afternoon & got our little colt for $40.00. They didn’t have it so nice to load her, she wasn’t used to any trucks. They got her on & away they went. Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s to got a load of wheat, then Papa went to Red Bud with it. Mr. & Mrs. Mike Wedel had a accident near by Waterloo, when they were crowded off of the hard road. The Hecker School will open on Tuesday, Sept. 2 Gregory Mcarthy teacher. Broad Hollow on Sept. 2 by Miss Mary Havey teacher. McQuillen School Sept. 2 by Miss Lela Deuker teacher. Hirst School Sept. 2 by Miss Ethel Deuker teacher.
