Pap got crushing done. Uncle Fred & pap went to Waterloo A. Wiehl wanted to see Uncle on business. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary & papa went to Mrs. Stahleber’s sale this afternoon, household goods & farm implements. Percy Stav [unclear] Ave. Auto license came today & what No. so long. Eggs are down 13 [cents] today. Wm. Birkner is fixing Harry Kammlers chimney today, an awful cold northwest wind. Mrs. Whiel sale by Waterloo last Sat. things also brought good price, for conditions of the weather, cows average $100. sow & pigs $77.00 chickens $12.50 doz. paper says. Henry stopped in.

Friday, Feb. 25, 1938

Went out to Henrys got load oats, also corn. A fellow here wanted something to eat. Chas. Helfrich got 20 bu. oats 40 [cents] paid $5 today. At 3:30 fire alarm was sound, fire at Harry Kammlers saloon house, chimney, starting in side; not so much damage done. Bert [Bertille] paid electric bill – 18 hrs. $1.39. this mon. Colder this eve. 28 [degrees]

Wednesday, Feb. 23, 1938

Sent out butchering at Henry’s, took Emil along, Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary helped to, had lunch & beef soup dinner; made 69 summer saussage [sic]; 1 hog killed. Pretty nice day, wasn’t so very cold; he sold all the beef.

Saturday, Feb. 19, 1938

Raining all morn. getting colder. Henry stoped [sic] in got crushing done. Bert [Bertille] baked 3 cream pies. this morning. Bus company employees of Waterloo haveing [sic] free dance tonite at Pautler’s, musci [sic] by Leroy’s Swing Band. Elmer Kabureck won the attendance prize, case beer at Floraville Masquerade Ball.

Friday, Feb. 18, 1938

Raining again. Emil was over awhile. Henry & family had dinner here, no school today, they went to Belleville; we finished the quilt today; just in 2 weeks today. Ordered auto licenses.

Sunday, Feb. 13, 1938

Went to mass. Mrs. Joe Wacthel, Mrs. Clarence Wittenauer & baby girl Doris & Lucinda came last nite awhile. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up all day, dinner & supper; we played 2 games pinochle; there Uncle went to see Mrs. Mike Armstutz who isn’t very good at present; Bert [Bertille] went along with them out to Mueth’s to see them, Josie isn’t so bad the rest are still in hospital, but getting along well so far. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] stopped in, went to Henry’s all day. Beautiful day 74 again. We went over to see Emil – Lester Gregsons family came also. At 9:30 car drove in here, it was Ed. Heap, looked at the pigs.

Lincoln’s birthday. Beautiful day 76 degrees. We went to Waterloo this afternoon, to church, stopped at Henry’s.

Monday, Jan. 31, 1938

It is 5 above this morn. at St. Louis. Emil came & we went out butchering at Henry’s, had dinner & supper. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were also there; Mr. Horn 83 yrs. old was buried this afternoon from his home here, to Stehfests cemetery; we didn’t get there & didn’t see him.

Saturday, Jan. 29, 1938

Henry stopped in got crushing done. Bert [Bertille] baked cream pie. Rose [Rosalia] brought qt. milk last nite. Mr. John Horn of here died this morn. at 7 o’clock, we seen Quernheim’s come out to get him. Wm. Ganley came on business. We & Emil went out to Henry’s this afternoon. Hess & Cleveland helped yet to cut corn fodder for chop for feed; we had supper there. This eve. we went to Rob. Lauts; Rob & pap lost every game pinochle but 1; had popcorn, coffee cake, wine; seen the plans for Rob’s new house 28 x 32 its going to be. Tonite is Pres. birthday balls some places. Masquerade at Floraville.

Friday, Jan. 28, 1938

Warmer today, south wind 43 [degrees] at 3: pm. The electric power was shut of [sic] for awhile, over 1 hr; trouble at the quarry. Steve Stiffler of Paderborn was here looking at the horses, pap worked them for him, drove around with the wagon. Miss Mary I James of Waterloo passed away 1 day last week. The paper also says that the familes [sic] of Otto Geodelle & Matt Crowe moved there household furniture to St. Lous, were they will now live. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] & Henry & family came this eve. Mrs. Orlet is in Belleville hospital, alfoull [sic] weak, has gall trouble, & something wrong with eye since last Wed.
