Mr. Loresch from Red Bud was here & wanted to sell us some marble flower pots to put on the front porch, for $1.75 a piece, we didn’t take the. Papa & Neff’s went out wood sawing again, guess they will finished this afternoon. Herzog a fruit tree agent from Belleville wanted to sell us Dintelman’s tree’s, but we have plenty. Joe Wacthel is butchering today. Frank Geschwinder & his bride came home yesterday from there honey moon trip. The Eichenseer kids where around trying to sell Christmas seals stamps. Mr. Stadleman was around selling apples $1.50 bu. we didn’t take any. He sold a good many bus. here in town.

Papa got whey. This afternoon he went to Nic Noveslac Sale by Burksville station on Bozzay Place. Mrs. Minnie Staufbiuel was here & asked for to go along with us to Red Bud tomorrow morning to church. Harry Kammler is having a dance again to nite, musci [sic] by Dixie Blue Boys. Joe Herzog’s is also having another floor dance. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up to spent the weekend here. We went up to Eichenseer’s corner to listen to the musci [sic] he didn’t have a very big crowd, the weather got bad, so we went home. It rained a little, at Waterloo & Red Bud they had a good shower.

We went to Red Bud. We had lunch by Uncle Fred’s this afternoon. Last night Weber’s had a birthday dance in the barn & Joe Herzog’s have a floor dance tonite, Floraville floor, at there place. Mr. Cox the egg man didn’t come today, we had 36 doz. here.

Papa went down to see Hy. Armstutz, this morn, to see if he could get the team & mower, so this afternoon he got it & cut all his hay & cheat [?] of. Henry & Emil where here & got a hog. Mr. Biebel & 3 more guys from Belleville where here & looked at the colt, he would give $65. There where 3 more fellows here, 2 from Jennington Mo. & the other from Cowell’s place & looked at the colts. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where at Monroe City at a sale. Mrs. Wilde. We went out to their place this evening, listened to the radio, dances all over to nite, Bill Sensel’s, Nic Cortner’s barn dance, Weber’s Wedding dance in Dab’s Clubhouse by Smithon [sic], Hy. Weber & Mary Crowk. I seen Arthur Stehl & Anna Herzog license in the paper, 27 & 21. Papa went to Hy. Armstutz & got the team, & mower, & took it back agin [sic] this evening.
Thursday, Oct. 29, 1931
We fried down a ham & a qt. saussage [sic]. Henry sold everything in Waterloo last eve, all but a piece backbone, 2 bacons, shoulder, for 20 & 15¢. Henry & Leona went to Belleville this afternoon, & the kids stayed here. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up took some more turnips out, sold 1 bu. to Hy. Meng in trade with a bu. of sweet potatoes, for 50¢ bus. both of them. There was a man here from Et. St. Louis & asked permission to leave his truck & a load of posts here, he had a flat tire & couldn’t get none at the store, so they unloaded the posts & left the truck here. The egg man paid us 24¢. We sold 63# Sprs. for 13¢ lb, Rosalia took them up. She bought a lb. butter olea & got a towel along free, butter was 20¢. This evening we all went up town, Rosalia & Bertille went to Kammler’s Hall to the dance given by the baseball club. There wasn’t many there left them in free, then afterwords started charging 25¢ so we left. Where home at 9 o’clock. Bill Herzog & orchestra played. Sure nice musci [sic].
Saturday, Oct. 3, 1931
Today, Mrs. Val Fritsche of E. St. Louis is having sale on the Fritsche farm about 2½ mils [sic] from Hecker, where Joe. Herzog now lives. Also Leo Skaer of Millstadt is having sale, he lives on the Julius Stentcel farm, sale to start at 9 o clock. We all went there. Bertille rode along with Uncle Fred. They had the dinner along, we left there about 4 clock, didnt’ get anything, they had so much to sell.

Henry & Emil had lunch, dinner, lunch here. Hy. Armstutz was also here for dinner he helped to schock some today. Henry cut his oats for him too, & he smashed the binder all to pieces, he says he won’t be able to cut his at home anymore with it. He is finished up here now. Karl Boll & Marcella Ettling are being married & gave a dance at Brezzy [sic] Hill. Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary, Henry & Leona all went, but we didn’t. Bill Herzog furnished the musci [sic], they say it sure was some bum wedding dance, not many people, all was outside. She was dressed with a white dress & hat, shoes & pale pink stockings. Buddy & a girl from St. Louis where the attendants. We all went over to Rennecker’s this evening, Jake Klein’s family where also there, celebrating Steve’s birthday. He got a 1 gal. ice cream & Oh Boy was it good in hot weather?

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Henry & family where all here for dinner. Philip & Bill where here for lunch. In the evening they came back & we went down to the Brick House, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went there too. Bill Herzog furnished musci, [sic] they had a pretty fair crowd. They charged the gents 25¢ ladies free. The Red Bud Dramitic [sic] Club came to Hecker to the new school hall & gave a play to-night. There was a terrible accident in Hecker, this evening, there was a car came from the west & didn’t make no stop, & Eugene Bruns was going by & then smashed together, nobody was hurt but the cars where both damaged. The stranger car was a man from Belleville & one from Chester, they where intoxicated. The Sheriff was called & he arrested them took them to Waterloo to jail & the way they said they would have to pay $100 fined & 10 day in jail. I don’t know who is right, we heard now again that the boy’s where uncosinence [unconscious].
