Saturday, Oct. 10, 1931

Ambrose Doyle’s have a little baby girl christened Doris Jean last Sun.  Papa went up town, he brought us a bucket water along, for the premium on dinnerbell butter boxes.  Harry Kammler has a confettie [sic] & serpentine dance this evening.  Victor Geodelle is giving a birthday dance at Brezzy [sic] Hill, adm. 25¢, musci [sic] by the White Ducks, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up & we all went, it sure was a crowd.  Harry Kammler’s was a crowd too according to machines.  Papa was at George Boll’s this afternoon & settle up with him.

Saturday, Sept. 19, 1931

Papa went to Belleville today.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up in the afternoon, he chopped his dead trees off across along the highway.  Kammler had a dance this evening, but I don’t think it was very crowded not according to the cars parked in this end.  Too many other dances this even. – Chas. Sensel’s, Fred Webers dance.

Friday, August 21, 1931

Today is nice once for a change.  Leona & the kids, came up to get greengages, she cut our hair.  Hy. Armstutz was here awhile.  Anton Buehler from DeKalb & also his family where here, he just stopped in to say Hello! they are coming back again to make a longer stay.  Osie Neff was here, he wants to buy land.  There was a man in town today begging for money, he lost both of his legs in the coal mine, he is walking round on clutches.  Papa went out to the farm this afternoon.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary brought some more greengages along up for Henry’s & Kammler’s this afternoon.

Friday, August 14, 1931

Papa went to the barber shop this morn.  The way we heard Elmer Kammler bought Mrs. Lutz’s house for $900.  This afternoon Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & then she went along with us to Belleville.  We all went to confession.  We helped Uncle Fred to make root beer this evening, then they came over & sat on our porch until bed time, they stayed up here tonight.

Papa was over at Meng’s by the threshing machine this morning, then he went out to Henry.  Bertille did the scrubbing for Aunt Mary today.  Henry & family & Mrs. Geodelle & Raymond, Dick Lanert, where out here threshing, had them for lunch & supper.  Mr. Geodelle came out in the evening.  After we had everything cleaned up we all of us went out to Mrs. Hy. Ronerberg’s birthday party, beer & cake where there refreshments served.  The people came there & left all the time. The Porter Bro. House & Henry Kammler gave a dance in the hall, but they say it is bum there.

Papa & Rosalia went down to John Dehne’s sale.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up at Hecker today.  Bertille had lunch with them.  George Wagner’s went to Belleville to Leonora’s Kammler’s birthday.

Tuesday, June 23, 1931

Papa went out to help Henry shock the rest of the wheat, then it is finished.  He had lunch & dinner there, came home about 2 oclock.  Then we all got ready & went to Waterloo, & came by the way of Red Bud home.  This evening Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & Mr. Hy. Stalebher to pay int for John to them, & Steve Griffin & Elmer Kammler to see Uncle Fred, about lights.  We washed, ironed, patched today & canned 2 qts. cherries that Aunt Mary brought us 1 gal. & 1 can beans.

Monday, June 22, 1931

Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s again this morn. they was there for lunch, then they came back, Henry & Emil too with the tractor & binder, they was here for dinner & lunch, they finished cutting here about 4:30.  Then they helped Papa schock yet.  He left the tractor & binder stand here, ready for the oats next week.  We washed the Chev. this evening.  Elmer Kammler & Steve Griffin where here, Steve was speaking for the electric power line to come through, we won’t stop it, just so it comes.  He said nearly every one he spoke too it was alright.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here this evening, she picked some beans, & peas.  Eichenseers came down with a coop & we sold 70# l. hens for 13¢, & 39 h. hens for 14¢.  Eggs are 11¢.

Sunday, June 21, 1931

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for pie lunch this morn.  After mass this morn – the chances were raffled from the Pinic [sic], Tom Havey won the stove, Mrs. Hy S. Braun won the tea set, Lester Miller won a quilt, Uncle Joe won something too.  There was 5 articles raffled out.  This afternoon we all went out to Henry’s, he was up for church this morn – then went home & started cutting wheat again, Gus Geodell’s was out too, he was sitting on the binder.  We helped to bake dewberry pie.  Then it started in a raining & we went home.  George Wagners have lots of company today, it is Charles Birthday he is 4 yrs. old.  The Merhmans, Fritsche’s, Ettlings, Kammlers where all there.  It is a real lawn party.

Saturday, June 20, 1931

Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s again today.  She has to do the work & watch the kids, Leona has to drive the tractor again.  They was there for lunch, dinner, lunch.  I seen in the paper that Miss Ursula Havey is going to school at Carbondale.  That Judge Scheinder got married to Mrs. Bacblecher, they went for a honey moon trip to Calif. Colrado [sic], & a few other places.  Mr. Neheaus the conctrator [sic] from Red Bud & also the Millner’s Husband died & was buried last Sun. at Steelville Ill.  Tonight Harry Kammler is giving a dance again.  Werner is on the sick list now.  This morning I baked 4 pies, 2 cherries & 2 dewberries.  There where a good many cars in town tonight & also driving through.
