Raining this morn. again a little, getting colder. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came this eve. brought us apples & Mail Order; paps shoes everything allright, shoes a little big. The Ladies Aid have euchre at Kammler’s Hall tonite, we didn’t go; we played pinochle, 3 games.

Saturday, Sept. 11, 1937

Went to Belleville dentist. Bert [Bertille] got new black dress $1.99 they have street fair there yesterday & today, square is all decorated Ferris wheel, merry go around dance floor etc. Pap went to Bozzays. Sure cool nights. Maniers have fish fry tonite also dance at Floraville. Oliver Kammler & Lulu Ackerman were married at Louisville Ky. last Tues; are now making there home with J. Kammler’s his parents; he is employed now as hucstere [unsure – could be huckster] around town. Rob & Olive Laut are digging potatoes today here. Mrs. Jake Orlet is improving; she was very ill, the appendix was already broken when they operated; last mon. morning. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] were in to see here Wed. but not long no visitors allowed.

Wednesday, Aug. 11, 1937

Canned 12 qt. peaches, 1 green gage, cooked catsup. Painter finished this morn.; this afternoon working out at Henrys pap went out to filling in the outside cracks & spaces; took basket peaches along out. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped, moving Christ Buehler to Red Bud – his truck, Jake Klein’s & Werner Kammlers, them, Elmer Parker, Adam Eckerts helping to move. Ruma Catholic church has pinic [sic] today. Wm Wiegand was here going to move down on his farm, thought he could run his cows passed here. Uncle Fred & A. Mary came from Buehlers here.

Awful hot today. Canned plums made perserve [sic]. Eggs 16¢ down again. Werner Kammler is threshing today at Meng’s.

Sunday, June 13, 1937

Cloudy all day. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] were down for dinner & supper. Uncle Fred & A. Mary came went to pinic [sic] at Evangical [sic] Church, awhile; quilt played at bluey was won by Oliver Kammler. & raffled one, Carol Lee Armstutz & pillow cases Frieda Koerber & dresser scarf Henry Wiegand; sold 225 supper tickets Adm. 25 & 15. Bert [Bertille] went with Uncle Fred to Donahues to Al Benedick wedding dance got married Sat. in St. Louis, she was formerly from Tipton Bunch girl; he works in St. Louis; had an awful large crowd & no presents. Schmidts Orch. played at the pinic [sic] O. Birkner with his new piano key board & Ben Schilling drums; real nice music they played.

Washed ironed. Pap painted. The ford agent of Waterloo was here with 1935 Ford coach $450.00. Werner Kammler was around gathering rubbish around town. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up again this afternoon, had horse worked his corn patch; canned pt. cherries. A lady here selling books. Burkhardt was here looked at the horse. Canned 2 qts. beets.

Monday, May 17, 1937

Washed, ironed, worked gardens. Uncle Fred & A. Mary came had dinner & lunch with them ate over here, plowed there patch with our horse this afternoon. Lauts planted potatoes here this morn. E. Kammler worked it with Robs 2 tractors. We planted 47 tomatoe [sic] plants in truck patch this eve. Pierre upset there tractor this afternoon, but didn’t get hurt. Henry & family came we went along to Log Cabin by Red Bud to Farm Bureau picture show & meeting, kids enjoyed it; pretty large crowd. Eggs 17¢. Received a card from Florence Myerscough graduating from Red Bud High School exercises to be on May 28 & hall.

Thursday, Nov. 12, 1936

Pap got load corn fodder & Leona & Billy [Willis] came back with him, she helped quilt all day, the rest came up for supper & we quilted at nite, while the men went to Kammler’s hall to a poultry meeting given by L.D. Mertz, in regard to Wayne feeds. Pap & Bert went to Belleville, he got his upper set [teeth] today, & looked at Bert, getting along alright.

Sunday, Nov. 8, 1936

Much colder today, we went to mass. The Y.P.L. have a play & dance at Kammler’s hall tonite. Welcome Home Town Visitor, it was real pretty; players were Julius & Marjorie Rausch, Roland, Lyle & Veronica Rausch, Harold Wagner, Lee Howery, Als. Eckert.

Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1936

Cleaned house, planted out flowers & papered pots. Sure beautiful day, windy but nice and warmer. The Evangicals [sic] have euchre at Kammlers tonite. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, & they & Rose & Berti went to the euchre. Berti got cook pot. 9 points the rest got nothing. Edwin Watchel got attendance prize blanket; quilt by lotto was won by Freida Koerber again that is the 3rd one she got at Hecker, now, blanket by Mrs. Pickett, & table cloth, Josie Kaiser; not much of a crowd & not many prizes either.
