Pretty warm. We butchered 176 lb. hog. Leo & family & Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary helped. Bill [Klein] stopped in, was down to see Hy. Bruns about tractor. Mr. Hill came to get news from yesterday. Hogs today $6.65.

Went to mass. Berts [Bertille] 25 yr. birthday. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary, Leo & family were here for dinner; chicken & beef, for supper Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary, Bill Josie Keller brother Fred; played cards this afternoon. Herman of Columbia was here, H. Wittenauer, Klein Bros. on business; looked at horses & pigs. Beautiful day.

Went to 6 o clock mass. Bill [Klein] & Bert [Bertille] went to St. Louis with Meng of Freeburg to Westinghouse plant, bought electric stove & radio for $85.00 delivered; demonstrator stove, but really bargain.
Friday, Oct. 27, 1939
Rained heavy this morn. Bill [Klein] came fixed a part on Whip. had supper here. Bert [Bertille] went along back with him. went to Freeburg C. High School program this eve.
Thursday, Oct. 26, 1939
Raining a little. Bill [Klein] stoped [sic] in, he was out selling car. Schwab came this afternoon, had to work a little on Whip. yet. wasn’t working just right. Fellows here from St. Louis, wanted to weather strip our house, would cost $115.00 for every window & door. & $35 for living room & kitchen. Holy Name Society of Red Bud have card party tonite. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came & Bill we all went to Red Bud to euchre, pap didn’t go. Bill had 12 points got 6 glasses. not much prizes. We gave pk. potatoes, wasn’t up for euchre prize.
Wednesday, Oct. 25, 1939
Raining this morn. still warm yet. Pap went to Red Bud paid Fr. Spors $12.00 pew rent, got shoes. etc. Bert [Bertille] cleaned fruit cellar this afternoon. Mrs. Rudy Helfrich nee Otillia [Ottilia] Rheinhardt, was taken to Belleville hospital in ambulance yesterday morn; baby born at home, awful sick after. Bill [Klein] came brought Whip. Mrs. Favre came to get him.

Went to mass. Mission Sun. today. Went to Valmeyer to see Demmint, about sow & 10 pigs, sure nice; stopped at Henry’s on way back; baby Joyce sleeps nearly all the time. Sisters were out on Sat. told him [Henry] to send his boys back to school again, things would be different. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came this eve. had supper here. Bill [Klein] came down & we had 5 hand pinochle game. Sure is awful warm.
Friday, Oct. 20, 1939
Bert [Bertille] cleaned kitchen. Klein of Edwardsville was here looking for large white oak trees, we haven’t none. H. Wittenauer schocked 2 loads corn, 1 here & took 1 along home. Henry brought load up to. They say Cortners Lawrence they shocked 5 loads, a day 150 bu. to load; corn is very good. John Klein came bought sow & 9 pigs $55.00. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] went to dentist at Athens left Marita here; they were out at Henry’s last nite. He [Henry] took Rob & Floyd out of school, went to Public School again started today, he says going to see Fr. Aydt tonite with his boys.

Pap went out to see Henkels. We went to Smithton & then to Leo’s, bought 4 pigs $4.00 pc. Bill [Klein] figured the bill for our Whip; from the accident it was $12.02, we send it to Richards lawyer – Christoph Ins. man. Wittenauer shocked load corn this afternoon. Pap fixed wagon tongue.
