Saturday, Dec. 28, 1935

Pap took chev. to Probsts, & oil pump isn’t working, & he hasn’t any new ones there at present, so will have to wait till Tues; but he got it a going again this afternoon. George Wagner’s are butchering, got it from Gus. Klotz. Hy. Armstutz is doing the work. Beautiful morning snowed all nite, everybody is busy sweeping sidewalks this morn. Henry stopped in, he got crushing done this afternoon. Charles brought the mail. Monroe Feruer came papa had to sign Pabsts contracts papers.

Wednesday, Dec. 11, 1935

Rose baked oatmeal cookies, ironed & patched today. Arlene Klotz’s birthday, lot of Hecker people went down, children’s party.

Tuesday, Sept. 3, 1935

We washed, ironed. Cloudy day, no sun shining. Henry was up all day plowing had lunches & dinner. Papa is hauling coal 1 load this morning & 17 bus. & hauled 2 in afternoon. Bernice Wagner was here. Schools started all around today, Emil Hoffmann teacher here, boards by Oscar Klotz. Mrs. Kruse the Blackburn School again, have 10 children, Bill Geodell’s 2 & Al  – 1 – Screviners 1 – Fehrs, Defenbaughs, Wilkerson, Rob [Robert] & Floyd.

Tuesday, Aug. 27, 1935

We washed cloudy day no sunshine, Mertz got 2 coops chickens, young & old we shipped to St. Louis 33 young & 15 old. Gus Klotz & Aeron Papbenberg went to Centralia yesterday & got peaches. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up, he helped to fix stands up for the pinic [sic] tomorrow. We went out to Henry’s this evening, put up hair.

Thursday, Aug. 15, 1935

Holiday. Went to Red Bud 6 o clock mass. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had lunch & dinner, this afternoon we all went to Belleville, we got spring hats white one. Took chances on Smithon [sic] Catholic Church pinic [sic], on Sept. 2; on 12 articles from Mrs. Schaefer. Went to Renneckers awhile. Gus Klotz & family came to.

Friday, Aug. 9, 1935

Mr. Jim Parker is being buried this morning but none of us can go, we have to go to Henry’s threshing, oats; the grandsons were pallbearers; 3 of Geo Parker’s, & Paul & Clyde Pautler & Hy. Birkner; the daughter, Sister Amada was also home; came Thurs.; it was an awful large funeral. Henry had threshers for dinner & lunch, & supper; moved here about 4 o’clock. Klotz & Watchel machine threshed this & Geo. Schilling moved onto Blackburn’s. Henry threshed altogether 1108 bus; 394 bus. here & 714 out there, highest oats threshed so far; we got for our share 369 bus. Pabsts bought oats 47 bus.

Monday, June 3, 1935

We washed, ironed; nice day. Frank Buehler & guy from Ava, came looked at the binder, & he bought it $25.00 Papa paid Buehler $8.00 he hauled it home to Ava for him; got it at noon. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up, cut a dress for Rose, skirt & waist seperate [sic] a white one; had lunch here; planted out sweet potatoe [sic] plants, picked cherries. Roy Cortner boys & Pierre Klotz had a accident last nite, Klotz car not impaired, fender were torn of; they say. Eggs 19¢ today, going down again.

Thursday, Feb. 14, 1935

Valentine Day. Nice day, but the roads, just terrible, almost impossible with the car. The funeral of Mrs. Klotz is to be held this afternoon, Wagner Undertaker, they brought her up to the church this morn, & services this afternoon, the road is to bad, for anyone to drive in there, so they will bring her to the church; she was 73 yrs. of age, her father still living; but can’t move about, is bed fast with rheumatism in his legs. Papa went to Baldwin to see a party there. We went out to Uncle Adam’s this evening, he is getting along pretty good again.

Monday, Feb. 11, 1935

We washed, ironed, pretty nice day. Art & Mr. Schaefer came with two wagons to get the hay this morning. Mrs. Wm Klotz died, sometime this morning, the bell rung. Olive Laut is helpmate. We cleaned chicken house, sent a birthday greeting to Josie Keller, it is Wed. the 13. Eggs surely took a drop today, 30¢ this morn & 25 this afternoon at the stores here, sure is awful, 5¢ at one time.

Monday, Feb. 4, 1935

We washed, ironed. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went home after breakfast, froze a little. Mrs. Wil Klotz is very ill; eggs today is 26¢. Aunt Mary sent a dress pattern along with Louis Birkner for us; left it at Mertz’s Store. We went to Renneckers this evening, played pinochle, even games. Chas Hill & family left for Chicago for a 3 mo. job; with truck & car. Ed. Mengs butchered today.
