Washed, ironed, canned peaches. A man here collecting for poor people. Mr. James Tobin & Leona Vogt getting married this morn. at Red Bud 8:30 high mass; dance at Oak Grove tonite, only daughter of Bill Vogt. South of Red Bud. Catholics here have card & lawn party tonite at School grounds. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came, we all went to social, didn’t win nothing; Uncle had 7 got dresser scarf; played 12 games & couple games of each bingo, had cake walk, 15 cakes @ $1.25. Uncle Fred had to play accordion for cake walk; not much of crowd about 8 tables euchre, 1 pinochle, 1 solo. Mrs. Emmet Cowell while on her way to attend the wedding Mass this morn. was struck by auto. Leifer of south Red Bud, she also had with her a girl, who was also hit, had few teeth knocked out, & Mrs. has leg broken, side all bruised, were car had drug her about 30 ft. they say; is in Red Bud hospital, hurt pretty bad.

Raining all morning. We went to church. Spirtas was here & went out to Aunt Mary’s. Hecker is playing the first ball game today, here with Waterloo, & Hecker lost, the game & Boy some yelling they did, & terrible noise. Miss Melba Hepp & Leifer are being married this afternoon at Belleville, double bredismaids [sic]. Mildred & Erma, sisters of the bride, dressed in pink & blue, bride in white; all relatives that is Uncle & Aunts invited for supper & this evening 200 guests invited to Daab’s Club house for dance. We went out to Henry’s stopped a little while, then went to Waterloo to Mary Matthews birthday dance, Sunset Synodabt playing, but went we go there, it lightened & thundered, we went home again, it rained during the night; there were quite a few cars there.

We didn’t go to church today; snowing & sleeting all day. George Wagner & Steve Rennecker came over to sign hog papers for the processing tax, $2.23 for Jan. Steve stayed & we played cards, 4 games, he won 3. Monroe Co. C. W. A. are laying men off now till down to 6, stayed working: Osie Neff, Pete Watchel, all them are off, from Hecker, is only Jack Reagan, Hy. Meng, Hy. Braun working & there is Chas. Helfrich, Wilhelms, Leifer & some yet from Round Prairie working the snow plow went down & up, several times, but didn’t help much.
