Henry & Leona came left boys here, Bert [Bertille] went along Rosalia’s; & came back with Henry, Leona stayed. Billy [Willis] stayed here all day, fishing boys & Henry went home, caught 8 fish for supper, so far. Bert baked cake, cookies, got 50 lb. flour from Mertz; delivered. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came this eve. Henry & boys came got Billy.

Washed ironed, cleaned basement. Pap 60th birthday. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary & Henry & family were all here this eve. had popcorn, cakes, wine. Awful hot these days. Bert [Bertille] got soup bone beef, made soup for dinner. Eggs 17 [cents]. Bert sent a card for Fritz & his German band, to play a song for pap & Henry birthdays.

Went to Smithton to 7 o’clock mass; to see Ed. Heap; went to Leo’s & Rose [Rosalia] from there, had dinner there. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came there this afternoon, & Henry & family at night. We went to Con. Myerscough at Ruma, this afternoon; stopped in at Bill Vogts. Hecker baseball club have a dance at Pautler tonite; musci [sic] by Keims Trio. Ben Schilling is in with them. had pretty fair crowd cleared $40.00. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came this eve. & Geo. Wagner awhile. Tony Helfrich wrecked his car last nite by Floraville, nearly got in the pond; smashed up.

Easter. Beautiful day, had rain, wind, hail by Red Bud last nite. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary, Henry & family, Leo & Rose [Rosalia] were all here for chicken dinner, & supper. Emil came awhile this afternoon. Bill Klein & Bert [Bertille] went to Floraville dance.

Primary Election. Bert [Bertille] went to Henry’s, cleaned front room & stretched curtains; ironed etc. Henry & Leona went to vote. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up, making or cleaning garden. Got Chicago Mail Ord. today had to send shoes back to large; Beautiful day awful warm 72 at noon. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] brought truck back; hauled it Belleville calf & hog.

Went to first mass, received palms. Enrolled 13 new members to Holy Name Society, now have 39 so far; church lasted from 7:30 till 9:30. Went out to Uncle Freds for dinner & supper, Henry & family & Leo & Rose [Rosalia] were all there. Nice day, warm, & windy.

Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came, we went in with them to Waterloo, & went out to Paderborn church, with Henry & Leona, church was full couldn’t all get in; so many priests. Fr. Joe [Orlet] had the solemn Requiem High Mass; walked to cemetery, Fr. Aydt had sermon; she [Mrs. Orlet/Leo’s mother] has a concrete vault; she was 64 yrs. old. The pallbearers were Hy, Aloys, Dominic, Andy Roth & Ray Herman, John Mueth. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary, pap went to Percy Starr’s sale this afternoon. Levi Sensel stopped in looked at horses. Pap came home with Grosse from Columbia, he bought a plow here for 25 [cents]; but didn’t take it along.

Cloudy & cool this morn. hot this afternoon. Bert [Bertille] cleaned etc; sacked load wheat went to Waterloo 21 bus. got 77 [cents] pap went home. Bert got permanent by Colonial Beauty Shop came home with Leo & Rose [Rosalia] they were in from 11 till 3:30; & going back this eve. again. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came to get her coat by Mamie’s. We went out to Henry’s celebrated Rob. birthday; Geodells came out this eve. to, they were at Waterloo at the wake last nit to so had birthday today had cake etc. Started in lightening, getting bleak went home.

Radio keeps reporting the news of tornadoes terrible at West end Belleville, Union School, factory, many resenditals [sic – residential]. 9 being dead & 26 injured so far; 3 blocks area; not very far from Township high school; happened about 5 o’clock. Henry & Leona & Billy [Willis] came. Bert [Bertille] went along to Walter Gregsons & looks just terrible nothing left but the house, & not a whole lot of it, porches of [sic – off] etc; but no stock or any one injured, wood sticking 3 ft. in ground across the road from his house, done more damage by downs by Red Bud Vanburen’s, Gueberts; Henry & stayed for dinner. Pap went to Smithton bought 2 pigs from Ed. Heap. $10.00. Eggs 15 [cents] found 98 today. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came Bert [Bertille] went along to Waterloo this afternoon, to see Rosie Kaestenier (nee) Mueth she died Mon. eve. from cancer; leaves a boy 11, who stays with Mueth girls in St. Louis; she has divorce from her husband he has remarried again; she is 47, laid out nice, pink dress at Quernheims funeral parlor; till Fri. morn. then to Hecker church & cemetery. Phi & Ed. are just recovering from auto accident, getting along fairly well at present. Quernheims have a funeral tomorrow afternoon to. Jac Rahn, Hy Rahn’s father 85 yrs. old; he is from Valmeyer; has an awful lot of flowers. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came this eve; we had popcorn. Mrs. Orlet is very low.
