Pap got crushing done. This afternoon it rained, we didn’t go to sale of Mrs. Martin Fritsche’. Mr. Hy Kleber is being buried at Floraville this afternoon; ill for sometime, at hospital had tonsil removed, had poison system. Barber Pinic [sic] at Marissa Farm Bureau Picnic at Country Club today, starting at 10 A. M. Orlando Skaer’s have baby girl, now have 3 boys & 1 girl formerly Lorena Mehrmann.

Bert [Bertille] baked cookies, pumpkin pie & cake this morn. patched. Its hot again yesterday it was 98. Seen in paper that Joe Lengyl of St. Louis, she being Ethel May have a baby boy second boy now, also seen that Mrs. Eugene Fahey is going to teach Oak Grove School this term; she didn’t teach last yr. living in St. Louis. Mr. & Mrs. Otto Stadel nee Miss Norman Geodelle have moved household articles & 8 head horses by train to Waterloo, going to move with her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Jac Geodelle in Geodelletown, came from South Dakota. Hy Burckardt of Waterloo is going to start the Oak Grove Tavern now. Clifford Stahelheber wrecked his roadster last Sat. nite near Marrissa, hit into another car, he has a scratch on his chin; but now another car driving around already. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came awhile & Emil; It rained a little & thunder.

Awful hot day; no breeze. Washed, ironed. It rained yesterday at New Athens & Marrissa. but not here. Leo & family came this eve. took tomatoes along green & ripe ones. Levi Gregson, Emil & Noel & Agnes are all out at Clevelands’ tonite eating watermelons. Levi took bucket ripe tomatoes along home. They have devotion for 3 nites here starting tonite till Sat. eve at tridium for happenings at London which is going to take place soon.

Bert [Bertille] went out to Henry’s got scale, stuffer etc. They have an airline radio from Wards; & gas engine to charge batteries on it. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came up, went to Firemen euchre & dance tonite, didn’t win no prize, quilt played by bingo by Lizzie Neff. Oliver Birkner & Ben Schilling furnished musci [sic] for dance, wasn’t very much. Joe Gregson & Lee & Mrs. Andrew & Glenn Cannings of Marissa Ill. were all here on business to see Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary. Leo & Glenn Cannings are going to start tomorrow at Belleville a filling station there, corner of Milsdadt [sic] road Route 158. Lester is going to run this station on here they say. Pretty cold weather.

Cleaned chicken house & barn, worked in garden. Pap went on business trip & also to Waterloo to a big sale on Pautler’s farm west of town; people from Marrissa [sic] have a sale, on stock & tractors etc. Cool this morn. A fellow here selling household articles; bought fly swatter. The fire engine whistle was sounded this morn; called to the home of Andrew Mueth in Paderborn, were there house was on fire; but it was put out, before they got there. Rose came this afternoon, helped plant out flowers; took some along home, we planted all the house flowers out. Mrs. Rennecker came over awhile this afternoon. Jake Neff was here on business this evening. Cool again tonite.

Henry & Rob. came raked hay, we helped put 1 load in & he took 1 home; had dinner here. Hodges of Marissa was here Wed. to collect his money to pay the other guy Anderson for colt – $8.00 they paid, he wanted $12 first; that is the guy Henry got the team mares from, his all have colts now, 9 head horses & mules on his place. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped in this evening, they were at Ed. Parkers; his boy fell & broke his arm; & Ed Cortner’s girl broke her arm also. We got a letter sent from Blanche Crowe for graduating exercises to be on 29.

Berti ironed. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up had dinner here; Joe Griffin was here talking radios, Uncle Freds, going to get one like ours now, getting tomorrow, from J. Griffin $21.- there old radio. Nun from Marrisa was here wanted to buy oats. The Farm Bureau has euchre in Red Bud tonite in the school hall there. Clara Wagner has a quilt in for the firemen’s, Rose helped this afternoon. Cecelia Pour & Harold Eichenseer have the mumps; now.
Saturday, Sept. 7, 1935
Papa went out to Henry’s, Hempe Bros. were there wanted to buy team mares, but didn’t have the cash; Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & Bertille went to Marrissa this afternoon to Barbecue pinic [sic] & Homecoming, had a nice program at 1 & 3 o’clock; people were strange they had supper here. All children & adults of Evansville, Prairie Du Rocher, Baldwin, & Hecker were invited over to Sportsman’s Park to see ball game, Adm. 25¢ over 17 yrs. of age, under free, they went with 3 truck loads from here Wittenauer’s, Hills & Eichenseers 25¢ ride, left at 12 & came back 6:15. Henry was up & got the hay rake.

Penetcost [sic]. We went to Red Bud, first mass, 5 boys were enrolled in to the Sodality. Henry & family were here for dinner supper. This afternoon we went along with him to New Athens & Marrisa, about 3 miles south from there we went & looked at a team 3 yr. old mares; drove them around in the wagon, pretty nice, so he bought them $100 a piece; from Edmond Hodges; came home; got Chris Buehler to get them, Hy went along & got them this evening yet; $4.50 to hauled them down; we went out to Henry’s helped with work; Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came out then to see them. The Hecker priest Fr. Aydt has a bid day, he is 5 yrs. priest, 4 priests had the mass & Fr. Aydt made the sermon; choir from Belleville. The baseball team is playing at New Hanover today.
